That's it, Donna's Recipes!! I'm surprised your husband doesn't eat all that good food. What's he eat? popcorn once in awhile has to be o.k.

He eats things that are fried in butter and lots of pastas and potatoes - don't get me wrong, I still make him beef stews and lasagnes etc but that means lots of leftovers. He is of German heritage, meat and potato kind of background. It is just that I eat so little now and not fried or starch type foods anymore, so he makes his own many times. Never gains weight either, has a very active lifestyle and is a workaholic - so that is why I guess. When I say he is away lots I mean out in his shop here at home or off with the guys for lunch or coffee - Tim Horton's here is the best for coffe klatches! It always has been hard to get him to eat sufficient vegetables but I did win out with whole wheat bread for him over white! He does eat oatmeal with fruit most mornings but a smaller helping than most, me, two tablespoons with blueberries and hemp hearts!

Dr. Oz says salt is one of the worst things you can put in your body, he did a little demonstration on his show and it really proved to me how salt is not my friend. My b/p is normal now after stopping frozen dinners, processed foods, and stopped adding salt to my foods. It forced me to start cooking for one, because I can control what is in my food. Use spices in place of salt. Eventually, you get used to it, and your b/p will improve.

Stoongal has a lot of good ideas, I have found useful too. Bistro MD is a great meal delivery plan if you can afford it. The Biggest Loser uses them too. You could get the 5 day plan, and split the meals in half and it could last 2 weeks that way, and I hear the food is delicious, like a personal chef!

Anyway, I feel ya. But, your only 9 lbs from goal!!! WHOO HOO!!:crying:

Donna, talk about unfair. My husband put himself on a diet with me and drops weight overnight. He's a steak and football potato with mounds of butter and feels that is normal portion. He can't believe what I eat (or drink) now. But we are both getting healthier and glad he is realizing what good eating habits this will hopefully bring about. I am still on the clears, thins so will be ready for the Jason deli's Soups soon. I am saving all your recipe's for ideas,I'm a basic cook. Steph about the salt, I can say I am more addicted to salty things than sweet or anything else. Coming home in the airport we were continually looking for soups to eat and a lady next to us had a huge plate of everything nachos and I was drooling. I could eat the whole plate bf...no more. I am babying my sleeve. I feel better every day--life is good!

It's Time, Congrats on your sleeve!! It gets better and better every day, just stick to the plan. After my surgery, I had no cravings for food at all, the smell got to me. But, now, it is back to normal, so nothing causes problems for me. You will be just fine.

Last night I cooked a pot roast w/all kinds of veggies (no salt) and it had the greatest broth, so I made beef/veg Soup out of 1/2 of it. Yum! And, talk about filling. The rest of the meat I will use the next couple days for chili, etc.

Enjoy your new life with the VG, it's the best thing I ever did.

Hey Tracy,

This is just a thought... When I was in my second year of graduate school my husband got offered a great job in a neighboring state. I looked into transferring but found I would lose a lot of credits and all my internship hours so I decided that I would commute back and forth weekly. This was a SUPER hard decision for me because I had a two year old at the time and being away from her was going to be torture. Anyway, I would leave at 3 am on Monday mornings drive 5 hours go to internship and classes for four days and then Thursday nights drive back 5 hours. It was really really hard and somewhere in there I had to find time for homework, and doing all the mom things. To make things easier I decided to start a food coop. I put up some sign as the local cafe and on craigslist to find like minded folk and when there were four of us we got together and planned out a month worth of main dishes. On Sunday I would cook and deliver food to the three other families. They would keep that for their monday night dinner. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the other families would deliver meals to my husband and daughter. This made his being a single parent a little easier while I was gone because even though he only got home aroudn 6:30 after getting the girl, they had a dinner ( usually still warm) waiting on the back steps. I loved the food coop and it worked really well for us. It may be something you might like to start for singles and cooking for one-ers. It would probably be a lot of fun as a single person. Now granted as a sleever you would probably still have too much but it wouldnt be that bad. When you are going to be out you just have to remember to bring it in and put it away. I found four days a week to be perfect.

I am finding it very hard to read the posts when people don't put spaces or breaks in between paragraphs. When the entire post is one long paragraph, I lose my place and I can't read it.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
