An Article I just read on OH re: VSG and Leaks

Recommended Posts

Lan, I'm sorry that you are going through such a rough spot in your life. You need to get out and get involved in something. Maybe volunteer work.

I know that is easier said than done, but you will be ok. You are far enough out from surgery that you shouldn't worry about a leak.

Hold your head up and be proud of yourself for having the courage to get through all the changes so fast.

Also remember that you will have a few hormone changes to deal with after surgery (from what I hear anyway). I had a few up and down moments but doing ok now. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Ky I appreciate your support...my head/mind wants to be grateful for so many things...my body is pumping with anxiety. I am trying, walking, deep breathing, praying and yes I am going to volunteer in an adoption home for cats. I may have felt courage before my surgery but I'm at a loss for it now. My dad tells me to use my mind to conquer my fears. My parents, I thank God for them...but I'm just so sad. Maybe it is partially a hormonal thing. I shall keep you posted and thank you so much.

The only leaks I have had are out my ass end when I get the damn trots! But I was never worried about leaks in my sleeve. As many people as have this surgery done, I was confident that I would be ok. I worry more about getting all of my nutrients and food in! Found out I am low on Iron, and that explains some of my tiredness. But that has been the extent of my problems. I really am glad I had the sleeve done!

Personally, from someone scheduled for surgery Nov. 19 Yahoo!!! sorry couldn't contain myself.... I think we need to look at why leaks form.. Have these patients been following their post op diets or are they cheating and putting their stomachs through a process it is not ready for. Some of these patients are on their 2nd surgery for weightloss. That tells us that they still have issues with eating since the first surgery didn't complete the job?? Don't get too worked up over this issues. Do research on your Dr. and Pray. God will take care of all things.

Lan,

I'm no doctor, but maybe because of all the changes you are going thru, all your worries are being focused on something that is actually "there". Yes, you had a major surgery and you made it just fine, but now your focused on the 'what ifs'

I'm sorry you're going thru this. But you CAN do it, and it's comforting to know you are seeking help for it. Continue being the strong person you are!!

You're in my thoughts and prayers, it's not easy being alone, I had my surgery alone and it is difficult, no one I could share my feelings with except my journal and now this group which has helped me soooo much!

Good luck to you!

Thanks so much. I am just having such a difficult time and every day I awake it just seems to get worse not better. Although I am living alone, my beautiful aging parents have been emotional support for me but there is only so much they can say and do and I feel as if I'm draining them because they are so concerned. I have a daughter but her attitude is ma get busy and distracted and snap out of it. What she doesn't realize is that I do want to get on with life but I need to feel physically well, reasonably normal, be able to get my nutrition in, and not be riddled with anxiety, and all these physical issues. I am so glad to know that you have come through in spite of it all and are shining. Again thank you so much for reaching out and caring. God bless you Chancie.

Lan,

I will send you good thoughts and prayers. I think we all can relate somewhat to depression and how alone you feel, but it sounds like you had so many life changes at once that it was a perfect storm and anyone would have stumbled. Having surgery doesn't make everything perfect again. I hope you can get out and above this cloud and give to something you care about, I know you have a lot to give...

I thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. I have never been on antidepressants or relied on antianxiety medication and here I find I am visiting with a psychiatrist and on a very low dose of Wellbutrin and Klonopin once in the morning and before I go to bed a Trazodone. My entire psyche has been distrupted since having this sugery and in hindsight I realize that the timing was off. I am just so depressed now but fighting my way back. Eating is still an unpleasant experience. So that every time I eat I feel like crying. I have applied to become a volunteer for a cat adoption center and tomorrow morning is my first day of training. I kind of a forcing myself since I have a sort of detached feeling from the rest of humanity. Thanksgiving was hard, big family lots of food and I hardly ate a thing. Everyone there was so compassionate and supportive but I just felt so isolated within my state of not being able to share in the enjoyment of all the wonderful preparations made by my sister. I found myself in tears at moments just feeling so sad. I do hope that soon I will feel like my happy self again. (I was a fairly content person). I see you too will be sleeved soon and I see that you have choosen one of the best surgeons out there. I am glad for that and will keep you in my heart and prayers for an easy experience and recovery. Thanks again for reaching out to me.

can someone enlight me for signs of a leak? and for how long after operation I am supposed to be at risk of leak?? thx

My surgeon had said that after about 2 weeks one would be safe...but I have found out otherwise on this message board. There have been cases where leaks occured even a month out. I will hope that someone who has some concrete knowledge will reply to your question. You might want to start a new thread with your question as the title. I think it will get more attention as a new post.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
