Hi I've had my gastric sleeve 1 week ago in Newcastle, I don't really know where to write yet, just wanted to know if anyone out there had their sleeve done in newcastle(washington-Mr Small) I'm doing really well, no pain, no hunger pangs, can't believe it! I lost about 4 pounds in a week, which I'm happy with. The only thing nobody warned me of the constipation! I think I'm not drinking enough fluids, anybody went through the same??

Oh yes. It's been a constant problem. Found the best blockage remover is a dose or 2 of 15ml Lactulose and a few Actome probiotic yoghurts or som probiotic capsules. Plus Water. Going forwards, massive amounts of cabbage, nice eh??

Hi Everyone

It is 6 weeks today since my surgery and I thought I'd give you an update.

I'm doing really well. I've lost a whopping 21kg (3 stone 4.3lbs) and I'm very happy I went through with the operation.

Bella, that is fantastic, and you should be really proud of yourself. Are you feeling better with walking and general mobility? I rememer when I suddenly found it did not hurt so much to walk any distance, so liberating! So well done you and we will need pics when you are ready :scared0:

I'm definitely doing better with getting around, although I'm still getting very tired and finding myself needing to sit down. I'll keep plodding along, I'm sure it will get better!

Hi everyone,

I have just been reading through the recent posts and found it all really interesting.

I have just got home after having emergency surgery on Monday night on a strangulated hernia and am even more convinced than I was last year, when I had the original hernia surgery (it's all a really long story), that they are absolutely useless when it comes to proper dietary advice.

I am still having my sleeve op on July 13th, thankfully, and cannot wait to get my slipped band out. I just don't think that the surgeon or the nurses really appreciate the problems I have had with this slipped band. I was retching and vomiting so much last week and over the weekend on an empty stomach (the indigestion would come from nowhere regardless of whether or not I had eaten or drank) that I ruptured myself and ended up with this strangulated hernia. Directly after the op they were wanting to administer me various tablets despite me repeatedly telling them that taking anything could cause me to start retching again. So they brought me a bowl to be sick in!!! That was what ruptured my stomach so eh??? I ended up getting quite panicky and then they toook notice and did administer my medication intravenously in the end.

Have been discharged though, despite not really being able to eat (although tbh I have tried some Soup today and am ok and not had any indigestion or reflux) and told to follow the milk and yoghurt diet prior to my sleeve surgery. When I told the sister that the m and y diet had really constipated me 2 years ago and that I had been told I could introduce a bit of dry toast, Soup etc she told me that was rubbish and that I was to follow it exactly! I told her that I was not going to risk getting Constipation so soon after hernia surgery and that I wold take the surgeon's advice on that! Am going to do the same as I was advised two years ago though as that was good enough advice then.

They have all really annoyed me as they just don't seem to have a clue. I was discharged from hospital yesterday without them giving me any advice on my recovery nor them even inspecting my stitches, so it's just a good job that I am sensible and know that I need to take it easy and keep an eye on wound and keep it clean.

Anyway, I shall be having my band revision two weeks on Monday and will no doubt be back here asking for your advice again as I'm not relying on the hospital to be particularly helpful diet-wise!!!

All the best to everyone

Love Helenxxx

Hi Helen

Reading all this it has reassured me even more that I am doing the right thing not having my Sleeve done in UK, but am going through Cosmetic Bliss to Prague with Dr Cierny. I have no faith in the NHS what so ever and from what I have read everyone that goes to Prague through Cosmetic Bliss cannot praise the team out there enough.. Going for my sleeve on 26th June 2011

Good Luck to everyone

Hello,

I'm so happy to see a UK forum! I came across USA site in January and only later on I realized that UK has it's own page!

I'm a diabetic, type 1 for over 20 years. User of a Medtronic insulin pump for 7 years, under care of a Diabetic Clinic in King's College Hospital in Denmark Hill.

I applied for a bariatric surgery at the beginning of 2010. My application was accepted 7 months later by my local Hospital Trust in Kent.

I elected to have my surgery at King's for obvious reasons.

I had 2 meetings with my surgeon, at that time it was Mr Ali Hallal, to discuss all available surgical procedures. Originally I was interested in a band but, as a result of my consultations I changed my decision to VSG.

6 months later, just when I thought I was totally forgotten, I received a call from hospital administration asking me to come for a pre-assessment on 12.07.11.

Wow!!! I think all went well and I was OK-ed for a surgery. Apparently I even lost some weight, down to 110 kg. Well, it's still size 26-28 ( I'm very top heavy ).

Today I'm waiting for a call confirming availability of a hospital bed for tomorrow. :o

Admission after 18.00 on 15.07.11, surgery on Saturday 16.07.11 if its a green light ?!

I'm a bit shell - shocked! Nothing was happening for such a long time and suddenly - Ca-boom!!!

I spend all my free time, since my return from hospital, reading your storeys. Printing your advice, especially about taking drugs and supplements.

Thank you to Jane, Yorkshire pudding, Cherrydrop, Bornagainbabe and Snowcrystal - I think we're sharing the same surgeon- Mr. Patel.

Thank you to Lynnette43 for sharing her post-op experiences about her pump. I tried desperately to get in touch with my diabetic specialist but so far with no success. Time is a serious problem, from 0 activity to full speed! Not enough to make contact with people!

Shell I panic? :bolt:

HI everyone,

I had mine done at the London Independent on 3 June 2011. My weight loss seems to be slower than most people on this forum but it is steady. I have lost about 2 stone 8lbs; From 19st 10lbs to 17st 2lbs. My BMI was 42.9 and is now 37.1. I just under another 6 stone to loose and I don't mind if it's slow because then it's easier to avoid slack skin.

Anyone else who is about six months or more out and has gone slowly like I did?

Sian

Hiya Sian...

At 12 weeks out, appros the same as you, I had lost 2 1/2 stone... so very similar stats. Yes, I am a real slow loser, but I am still losing... I am just over a year out now and I still haven't reached goal, but I have lost 4stone and 10lbs... and that is the best thing ever! I have about another stone and a half to get to my surgeon's goal and about 2 and a half stone to get to my personal goal. The surgeons goal is the most important, to be honest... he doesn't seem to think that lower would be good for me... I would just like to see it though...lol

Any questions feel free to give me a shout =]

I had mine on May 21st and I am of similar losses too. I am starting a more rigorous exercise regime this week so hopefully that will kickstart it, but according to the dietician I am exactly where they would expect me to be. It ebbs and flows apparently. 2 and a 1/2 stone is great though! Don't you feel a bit of a spring in your step? :) Well done us!

Hi coops,

First off well done on your loss so far. I have a question though. Why does your surgeon feel you shouldn't get to at least a BMI of 25? I don't understand.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
