June 2006 Band Crew

Hello Junbies ......

I haven't seen a June Band Crew thread yet so thought I would start it :) .

I'll be banded on June 9th in Texas. I'm getting very excited about it. I know that the band is just a "tool" to aid in my weight loss journey and it will take a lot of hard work on my part to make it successful. I've been overweight my whole life with the earliest memories being around age 4. Although no one else in my family is overweight, I am extremely fortunate to have full family support in my decision. I know that there are many people who's family doesn't offer the support they need. I would love to meet other pre-bandsters being banded in June to walk with me to the banded side of life and offer each other support.

I wish you all the best.

I am curious if those who were banded on Monday or Tuesday, and are already eating mashed potatoes were told it was ok. I have read that you have to be on clear liquids for at least a week. Is it really that hard to do? I am scared that that week is going to be very hard, but I'm also afraid of causing problems. Help!!! I'm 2 weeks out and getting worried.

One comfort is that those just banded this week are already posting on here!! Gives me hope I will make it through.:clap2:

Hi everyone. I am haviong my surgery on the 16th with dr. j rodriguez in acuna mexico. I have been doing the preop diet since friday and feel great already! i just had a baby and was wondering if anyone had been banded and is breastfeeding??

Chako Lady: I was told to be on liquid diet (which I posted on this thread) for two weeks, and then go to mushies. Honestly, I don't even think I could get mashed potatoes down. All I ate today was 2-6 oz Myocel shakes, 1/2 cup pudding, and a bite or two of Hawiian Delight Baby Food (which was yummy). I have about 1/3 of my 20 ounce bottled water to go and I will be done with that one today. It has been REALLY EASY to stick to the liquid diet for me, as I get full really quickly. But we will see about that when the swelling goes down.

Every doctor is different. My doctor has his "rules" posted on his website: www.drbenavides.com/instructions.htm

You are welcome to look to see what he says. Good luck. The time will fly faster than you know it!

I am getting banded on June 16th with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali! I've been on the pre-op diet (high protein, low fat) for a week and have lost 13 lbs.!! Good luck to all of you getting banded in June! :) I have isopure, gatorade, broth, and jello on stand-by for when we get back. I've been wanting to do this for 8 years and it is finally happening! WOW!

You know I ordered the unjury powders and they are pretty good, especially in jello and in mornng shakes!:clap2:

Jro I also have lost 6 lbs since friday! my husband says well see you dont need the surgery and i said as soon as I stop dieting one day the party is over and I am tired of living like this. I am craving sweets though.:)

Ice is better. It reduces the swelling around the port site. I had two packs going one right after the other. It kind of numbs the site too. Heat feels great, but can inflame the site. My doctor always says if you use heat always end with ice. Don't ever just stick with heat only.

Just think... Ice Ice Baby....

Jro I also have lost 6 lbs since friday! my husband says well see you dont need the surgery and i said as soon as I stop dieting one day the party is over and I am tired of living like this. I am craving sweets though.:)

My husband said the same thing....after I glared at him he realized it wasn't funny! I would kill for a big fat pizza right now, but I'm keeping my eye on the prize!

Reeneea and Cutiern.....does it feel uncomfortable for you to take deep breaths? It was bothering me until i finally made myself burp now its not that bad.....i use to be able to burp all the time now it is very hard to do. I dont think i am gonna do the potatoes again....think i will stick to pudding and milk for now.

yeah it still hurts when i take in a deep breath. but the pain is not as intense. i'm expelling the gas which has helped me out alot (i know tmi:p )! i think my port is in the upper middle of my stomach. i have a huge bruise around this incision and not around the other ones. i need to change these steri-strips. i'm going to go by the hospital and pick some up. i am feeling better. all i've had today was 3 oz Isopure milkshake, 6 oz of creamy Soup and a sf/ff popsicle. i'm still burping! i think i might try some egg beaters in the morning.

cutiern:biggrin1:

Dawn,

Good job on sticking with liquids! I've read so much on how important the first few weeks are! I'm sure you will start losing as soon as the swelling goes down. I would love any information you could share about Dr. Ortiz as I am being banded by him 2 weeks from today! Yeah!!! Anything that you would do differently or that you did that you think helped? Carolyn from Dr. Ortiz's office said I could go out for a Mexican dinner the night before...but Dr. Ortiz's book says NO! Did you? What do you think? Any suggestions on clothing? Did you take your own robe to wear at the hospital? I just want to be prepared...I think I am getting nervous...LOL

Thanks again to all who post here! You are all so helpful!

I just wanted to tell you I know exactly how you are feeling. Although I didn't get insurance approval, when I called to tell the doctor I was going to be self-pay and wanted a date as soon as possible and was told they could take me in four days, I nearly freaked! We research, we think, we ponder, we talk to family and friends, we jump through hoops, we get tests done, we go to seminars, we read hundreds of postings but it isn't really real until they say, "we can do it on Friday"!!!

Tomorrow is my "Friday". I have no doubts or serious fears, but I am bouncing off the walls with excitement. I'm almost 60 years old and I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

I love these Junebie postings. Everyday I think about those of you who are getting banded today and look forward to updates from those of you who had your surgeries in the last few days.

I wish you all well and hope you will be sending me positive vibes tomorrow.
