I just had my surgery yesterday morning and I was wondering how long it was before any of u were able to sleep comfortably? The only real pain I have is on the left side where my port is and when gas is moving thru my system but I can't lay down to sleep.

Hi! I was the same I'm 8 days post op and still can't get quite comfy. Although the port discomfort is getting a little easier day by day. And plus I think that your so aware the port is there you tend to be extra careful. It will ease day by day. I lie on my back and my right side with a pillow tucked under my tummy. Hope it gets better as the days go by for you x

Yep! I also use a small pillow under my noticeably smaller tummy and I'm four and a half weeks out. Exactly one week post I felt I started slightly sleeping better, by the 12-13th day I still had port pain, but I was able to get in and out of bed easier, as well as sleep better. FEEL BETTER SOON!

I remember the first week being uncomfy. One due to the overall pain and gas and 2 because Im a belly sleeper and I was sleeping in positions I was not normally accustomed to.

Be sure to sleep with a heating pad, maybe use a body pillow to ease ab pains etc

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
