Had my lap band a week ago

Recommended Posts

So I finally done it. My health was really bad and even though I am not a heavy eater but my BMI was getting higher and higher. So had my surgery on the 13th of Aug, The procedure went smooth but felt very sick afterwards. This is due to the gases. Then went home that same evening. Was told to follow liquids for 2 weeks. First few days were really hard..I can feel every pain from the incisions and couldn't sleep at night coz no position was comfortable. Didn't feel hungry at all. Was drinking but even that made me full after 2 sips. I lost 3 kg in 5 days which is too much. By day 5 I started to feel hungry but the body aching was better. I spoke with my nutritionist and she suggested I can move into mushy food ..so went and had a potato and spinach Soup cream base ..and my body was not ready. Omg the pain..I felt so sick and nausea. Called my dr who told me off and told me to go back to liquids.< /p>

Now I am on day 7 but I am finding it so hard to only drink. I get soo hungry in the evening and this morning I just couldn't do it so I had a baby food sort of porridge ...and felt good with 2 spoons.

On Saturday we were invited to friends house...there was so much food and I couldn't ear any. But I am wondering if soon I will be able to have salads fruits and normal meals

Hi Harvey, hats off to you for getting the surgery done and now working through the recovery process. I am still pre-band but so appreciate all the input from recent as well as long-term banders -- really helps to know how to prepare myself. Obviously it's no picnic (ha! sorry!) but it seems like it gets better each day. You were courageous to attend a party. I have had some concerns about "normal" living following lapband. It seems like after the initial phase and getting into the green zone then it is definitely possible to have "regular" food, just in much smaller amounts than what we're used to. Please keep us posted and know that this is temporary! Best wishes.

When you can have mushie foods they sometimes included applesauce. Just follow the doctor's rules, your doctors. How about sugar free popsciles. I have them every day, still. I love them. It is considered liquid but I sort of chew them.

When you make a Protein Shake, freeze it and have it like ice cream.

Good luck with your new journey.

We are kind of in the same boat. Had my WLS aug 12. Still sore but i am freakin starving. Hoping and praying that in addition to the tremendous amount of willpower that we need, that somehow this band is going to help reduce the cravings.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
