Afraid of failure!

One of the (many!) reasons I want this so much is being able to go into the next stage of my life with optimal health. I'm only 52 but I have arthritis and sometimes I feel like I'm 80 already. I know that I need to get this weight off so I can be happy and healthy for the years to come -- and able to enjoy them. There's so much I want to do! Good luck to you!

I am 65 now, ha it done at 61. Like Bandista, I was feeling like I was in my 80's. Now I am off meds and can walk without pain. Best wishes, you can do it, if you want, and you do sound motivated. Keep your surgeon abreast of your other problems, sounds like can be fixed, too!

I'm 65 as well. Since my banding last Dec. I am off my diabetic injections, have no signs of diabetes, my blood pressure and cholesterol are normal and I don't feel "old" for my age! I feel like I did when I was 30!

I agree that you need to consult your sugeon at length. I had a large hiatel hernia repaired during my banding surgery. I never had food stuck, ust alot of really hot acid. If it did experience sticking, it sure didn't feel like it does now when it happens. But as said, throwing up is not a good idea as it is a cause of slippage.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
