is it normal to still not feel restriction

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was banded Nov 8 2012 and have lost 40 lbs with 50 more to go! I gotten fills every 6-8 weeks since December and still don't feel a lot of restriction. I have only had one incident of sliming and that was because I ate way to fast. I am concerned that perhaps my band isn't holding the Fluid put in. The other night I was able to eat an entire chicken parm grinder on italian bread! And I had my fill 3 weeks prior.

I guess my question is, could my band not be holding the Fluid from my fills and how do they check it?

Thanks

Bonnie

What my doc does is every time he gives a fill, he takes out all the liquid from the band to measure it and then adds the amount for the next fill. This would show if you might have a leak if he knows he put in 5cc and now there is only 3. If that makes any sense.

Also I dont know how much food a grinder is but it sounds like way too much to be eating at one time. Make sure you are measuring your food. 1 cup is my Doc's max. Yours might be different? But if you eat that 1 cup and still aren't satisfied then you can always eat again when you are hungry. It would suck for you to come this far and damage your band.

You might be on the loose side but you're weight loss is great. I too was worried I had a leak because with 14cc in my 14cc band I could still eat a whopper with the bun some days. I had them pull my Fluid out and check it and sure enough it was all there. Unfortunately, what I didn't realize was that pulling out the fluid and just putting it right back can cause the band to shift a little and make you swell. What happened to me was the checking of the fluid along with a a slight addition of fluid caused me to be way too tight. I wish I would have just had them check the fluid and not gotten a fill at the same time because of how close to the green zone I was but live and learn. It's easy for them to check your fluid amount and they should know how much is supposed to be in there. You may have a leak or you may just have a very lean stomach. Good luck and keep us posted!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
