Feeling Full ???

Recommended Posts

I always read posts from people talking about "Feeling Full"

This morning I read 3-4 posts where people talked about that "Full" feeling....

Everyone who says they feel full....please explain what that feeling is like??? Compare it to what feeling full was like before being banded??

Since being banded, I have NEVER felt full.....but many people here talk about it, leading to many to desire it as a goal....especially those newly banded...

Like I said, I never had that "Full" feeling......I have on occasion eaten a little too much, or drank immediately after swallowing foods....but that led to Pain...as though I was stretching the pouch....but never full......

(I should say I have felt "Full", or stuffed...but that was not from normal eating and nothing directly related to the band....but that is something entirely different...I'm talking here about normal eating throughout the day and how the band benefits that)

With a properly working band, I don't feel that typical 'fullness' you feel from over-eating like pre-band either. I say my band 'kicks back' as opposed to being 'full' because it's not the same feeling.

Now I'm not at green zone and there are times I can still get 'full' but it's not a comfortable feeling for me now and I try to avoid it.

That's the first thing my Dr explained to me. "You won't be getting that Thanksgiving stuffed feeling. Eat too much and it will hurt". He was right.

Nope. I haven't felt full (that oh my gosh why did I eat so much feeling) since being banded 3 months ago. I love the fact that I haven't because it really is an unpleasant feeling.

B-52 I'm glad that you mentioned this, because I ave never felt "full" either. I always make myself stop eating when I think I'm eating too much. Yesterday, was a very bad day for me since surgery. I had a small slice of pizza and some Pasta. My stomach blew up like a balloon! I never had that happened before. Plus, I was very uncomfortable the whole night. I think I ate too much, and then the pain kicked in. Today, I have not even been hungry at all, and I have not eaten Breakfast yet. I was thinking of having a Protein Shake. What are your thoughts?

I think most people arent really looking for the "full" feeling as the "satisfied"/"not hungry" feeling. I personally just want to be able to recognize some restriction and I'm not sure that I do. Plus I'd like the satisified feeling to last longer than it does for me. Sometimes I do feel it, but not usually. I'm still feeling like I'm doing this on my own, without help. Which concerns me if I let my gaurd down for a minute, the weight will come flooding back on like all of the other diets Ive tried in my life. I havent had a fill and its been 3 months. This past 3 weeks I've lost and regained the same pound over and over again. I work out at the gym daily and am careful with my intake and I guess I just want to see that this is paying off some way. I have lost 34 lbs total but all of that was preop postop and the 1st month after surgery. Very little since.

Sandy, I'm going through the exact same thing. I don't understand it. Some people say that the pounds are "melting away" unfortunately, that is not happening wit.h mr no matter how hard I try.

Hang in there girl. This journey is worth it. I'm trying to break the plateau. It's gotta happen if we are doing right.

It will happen for you too, one day you wake up and the scale has dropped several pounds, in what seems all by itself. And then you notice that all those clothes that were fitting are way too big. Best wishes! It was not right away for me, but one day I noticed it happened, too!

To me, it's just absence of hunger. Full is not something I want to feel because I associate that feeling with being stuffed.

I actually I get to the point where my chest starts to feel tight. It's not a feeling of fullness but a signal that I have to stop eating because I feel I'll have a problem if I eat another bite. Like I said it's not a stuffed full feeling. It's more like a stop signal.

I am only 3 days post surgery. I'm confused in reading all the posts about how you know if you are "full" or not. I've read that some say that they can eat the same as before surgery, even though they have been banded. Is this because they have not had a fill yet? It worries me too because I don't want to eat too much and defeat my whole purpose!! I'm following my diet which is full liquids from day 2 through day 14 after my surgery. Then I can start back on some solid foods. I guess my worry is - am I going to know when I've had enough - even now on full liquids - will I feel full even though I've not had a fill and won't have for 6 weeks? My doctor does not give first fill for 6 weeks in order to let port area heal and for swelling to go completely down. Thanks much! Teri

You are still healing and your swollen so until the swelling goes down just follow your doctors orders. You will never eat like you did before but that being said you can have an occasional splurge but you should count calories. With the band it should be a lot easier to stick to your calories. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. Best of luck to you!

I am interested in this topic because I have a similar problem. The nutritionist at my surgeon's office says to eat until I am not hungry any more. I am never hungry! I somehow muddled through my first band and lost the amount the surgeon had predicted--kept it off, too--but had to be rebanded last month. This time I'm doing it differently. I have the new lap band book and am measuring out my food carefully. I bought a couple 1/2 cup ramekins to prevent eating too much Soup. I'd like to lose half the original amount again, but we'll see.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
