Recommended Posts

Hello I am Melinda.

I am two weeks from surgery and looking for support that anyone will give. I started a blog today about my journey to have for myself during the process.

I would love to share it with you all.

HI Melinda. Thank you for sharing your blog.

I can relate to your worries and hesitations. But just know, that in the end, it will be a decision you will be proud of. Different things motivate us as individuals to strive for and achieve success. I see you have a little one...so when you are able to do things you couldn't before it'll propel you to lose more. And when he grows up seeing mommy as the perfect role model when it comes to health and nutrition, you will be convinced you did yourself and him proud. Don't stress too much, don't put obstacles up that don't necessarily need to be there. Take one day at a time, rejoice in the NSVs and give yourself permission to be happy and feel what success is all about.

Good luck on the surgery, here's to a speedy recovery

I have been reading many posts, what are NSV's? Also can anyone tellme how long their surgery was for the lapband and hernia repair?

NSV = Non-scale Victory: When your body changes, even though your weight stays the same. Your clothing fits looser, you've lost inches, you sleep better, get off of any meds you required before you started the process.

Sugery lasts only about 45 minutes, feeling almost normal starts to happen around day 3 or 4. Bloating and your incisions are healed around week 3.

Day 1 will be the worst, be prepared by having one point of contact for people who want to check on you. You won't feel much like talking or being bothered by anybody or anything, so be prepared before you go for your procedure.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your answers! I need all the help I can get! I was fine at first but as the surgery date approaches I am starting to get nervous about complications, if this is the right choice, etc!! I know I want the end result but just afraid!!!

Hi Melinda, you are in good company here -- thanks for sharing through your blog. I am finding it very helpful to keep a journal as I prepare for the process of getting banded -- it is quite the process! Very helpful to read so many stories of others who have similar issues. Best wishes to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
