Early unexpected weight gain!

Recommended Posts

Only 7 days post op and was dropping the pounds nicely. About 15lbs at day 6. So it surprised me a lot that today GAINED .80 LBS ! How can that happen on liquid diet? I figured about 540 calories daily from Protein Shakes and broth comes in very cheap @ no more than 10 calories per serving in using bouillon!

You will gain and lose all the time. If you weigh yourself every day only actually count it once a week. I weigh myself every day, but Monday is my "weigh-in" day. You weight will constantly fluctuate. Your body is also healing and has lots of Fluid in it from surgery so don't expect a lot for several weeks. Just keep moving!

Isn't .08 like 1.5 ozs? You could pee that out or sweat it off with a 1 mile walk? Why are you sweating 1 1/2 ounces of weight?

You can gain 5 lbs of fluids simply by eating too much sodium, processed carbs, refined sugar, TOM? The lapband does not guarantee losing weight is a linear path to being skinny. The scale cannot differentiate fat loss from Fluid loss.

Your weight can move up or down every day depending on stress, Fluid input, food input, TOM, medications and the list goes on.

Everyone has their own comfort level with how often they weigh, but for this very reason, I stay off the scale on a daily basis. Drives me nuts! Then, when I DO weigh (about once a week), I'm (usually) happy with what I see.

I weight daily and put it on my calendar and count the lowest weight for the week...you body holds Water so it is noral to but up 5 lbs in a day and down the next..I track it daily to see how my body does that...so don't panic and 8-10 lbs loss a MO is perfect more in the beginning...

The big question is if still on a liquid diet and have no more than say 700 cal's, I can gain weight? Exercise increase and/or less calories is known to cure this, but come on 700 calories!

My dr and NUT has never had me count calories. I just did it on my own. They were more focused on following the eating guidelines and eating healthy. No calorie goal has ever been set for me.

0.8 lbs ????... Thats a glass of water.. Don't weight yourself everyday... And my advice to eliminate the frustration is to learn more and more about dieting and weight loss..

Its a life time process and you will not help your band by being uninformed.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
