I really don't get it. Down 17 since banded the end of March. Started exercising 5 days a week about 3 weeks ago and haven't dropped 1 pound. Nothing. Nada. I do spinning like 2-3 days a week and walk/run on treadmill the other days. I'm sick of this muscle/fat explanation. Ugh!!!

Here's the possibilities: 1) You hit a plateau. Rapid weight loss or drastic reduction of calories shocks the system. The body does not want to starve, so it will go into a plateau (ie holds onto your fat as backup energy supply). There are ways to cycle out of a plateau, ie having a cheat day or two. This extra calorie input tricks the body into believing you are indeed not starving and will be inclined to let go of the fat. But you must exercise control and go back into your diet afterwards. 2) Calorie Input vs Energy output. Can't tell through your post if you made any mods to your calories when you started working out. You sound like you have a pretty consistent and intense workout plan. This requires additional calories. Again, burn too many calories and the body will do the opposite you desire (plateau). Log your foods and approzimate caloric burn from working out. Ensure you are getting adequate cals post workouts to not sabotage all your efforts. 3) And than yes, there is indeed the muscle vs fat issue. As you workout you build lean muscle. So you could indeed lose fat weight but the added muscle weights nulls that and cannot be appreciated on the scale. Best way to check that is..measurements. You need to look for other ways of measuring yoru success (ie clothes size, measurement changes and just overall appearance/improvements). Otherwise you feel defeated and that has a negative impact on your desire tocontinue your efforts. Hope this helps.

Just curious... have you lost in inches?

I'm not able to exercise a lot... I've had 7 spinal fusions and both my SI joints are fused. (I have spinabifida) I walk with 2 canes but I walk everyday and use 2 lbs hand and ankle weights that helped me with toning with my arms and legs. I used them before and after my Tummy Tuck. I strap them to my ankles and writs when I got for my walk. I also do arm lifts with them.

I know several people in my lapband coffee group that exercise like crazy and they lose inches faster than pounds.

Don't get frustrated! Stress is counter productive to fat loss. If its been weeks with no change then its time to make some changes but not on the export side. Review the fine details of your intake side and increase Water consumption...

Thank you all. I'm due for a small fill next week and I'm going to try increasing my Protein and Water consumption. I know I'm eating enough.

I so feel your pain on this!! I'll lose 5 pounds, then gain 3 back. I'll gain and lose the same 3 pounds for weeks before finally breaking through, only to do it all over again. I do two 45 minute workouts twice a day, five days a week most of the time, so I definitely feel your frustration...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
