I am almost 2 weeks post op. I'm feeling great and just started soft foods, thank goodness! Just today, I starting feeling sad that I may never enjoy food again. I don't want to feel sorry for myself and I know these feelings all tie in to my issues/addiction/dependency to food. However, will I ever enjoy eating again even though I will be eating much less? Just wondering.... Thanks for your help!

One of my favorite quotes ever on this forum came from Pink Dahlia:

"I'm so stinkin' thrilled with my weight loss i dont even care about what i cant eat!" Pink Dahlia

Let's hope you, or we, all get to this stage at some time?

That's because you are 2 weeks out :P In reality, the post op phase is a great tool to help change our mentalities. Getting back to basics if you will. However, in time, you will learn how your band works and what foods can/can not be tolerated. You'll slowly reintroduce foods of preference and it'll be just as delish as it was pre-op..just less portions. Inevitably there are some foods that will become no-no foods no matter how much you like them. After your fills/restriction some foods just won't pass and it becomes uncomfortable to eat those foods. After awhile you no longer try eating them and than the desire for said foods diminish. This isn't about deprivation, just moderation. But remember, this is not about resuming old eating habits and trying to sneak in unhealthy foods in every meal. I eat high cal/fat foods maybe 1-2x week to help satiate cravings or simply to enjoy a specific meal.

You WILL enjoy food again- maybe to much. I find I almost enjoy food more because I slow down and savor what I eat rather than wolfing it down in a hurry.

Ditto! In the beginning, things didn't taste the same. Over time, that ALL changed & now I'm back to the way I was before. ACCEPT, I eat smaller portions, very slowly; chew well and savor every bite.

Thanks all... Very helpful to hear! I just relate it to the morning sickness I had when pregnant. I remember feeling the exact same way.

I definitely enjoy food more now. I eat less so I don't want to waste the little I can eat on junk. I want beautifully made, fresh foods that give me texture and taste.

I don't think what we did pre-band was enjoying food. What we did was enjoy the 'fullness' that food gave us. What I feel now is different, I feel like I actually enjoy food and not the fullness.

There is nearly nothing you eat today in small portions that you can't eat more of tomorrow if you really feel like it. Fear of loss (of food) is one of the biggest emotional hurdles most of us have to get through, but we're not losing anything really, because it'll be there, tomorrow, next week, next month, so you can always have more of a taste of it if you ever feel like it.

Thinking like that helped me stop over-eating, and stopped me from seeking 'fullness' and instead seeking 'satisfaction'.

when you are wearing smaller clothes, seeing the inches dropping off and the scale moving down.....you wont really care (what you think you cant have).....you can have whatever you want only in smaller amounts..the band wont stop you from (eating)..only not so much..you control the other part..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
