2 days post-op very sore and chest pains from hernia repair..but no interest in food!!

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery this past thursday. It went well. First day home and yesterday were really rough. Very sore and very nauseated. I feel much better today other than still having some chest pains when I breath in. I am assuming this is from the hernia repair he had to do during my surgery.... anyone else have any trouble like that??? And will the gas ever stop, its up in my shoulders and hurts like crazy.

I have no interest in food at all though so I guess thats a good thing!

Everyday will be better. Gas pain was gone by 4th or 5th day. I was amazed that I had no appetite!!!

As we breath in our diaphram moves and that causes pain at the repair site.

I am 4 weeks post op and still can get a random twing of discomfort in that area.

Try to stay positive. :D

I am 2 days post op too, and this is exactly how I feel. Also had hernia repaired ! Thankfully the shoulder pain subsided with ice packs. But the bloated and breathing pain still sucks bad !! I have had to force myself to sip Soups, because I am pretty weak from lack of food. But not hungry either. But still managed to gain a pound.. How is that possible??

All of you newbies stay away from the scale. You are swollen, and can't get any idea of weight loss at this point. Also...don't expect that feeling of not being hungry to last. it won't once the gas and swelling from the procedure itself subsides. Just focus on healing, and getting your strength back. You can go back to the scales in a couple of weeks if you need to check your progress. Good luck to you all.

For the gas keep walking and move your arms a lot. It will help break up the gas. It took me a full two weeks to feel totally normal again. This too shall pass!

Did u know ahead of time that there was going to be a hernia repair or did they find it necessary when doing the surgery. I have seen many people mention this part of the surgery

Hello post op Banders! I'm scheduled on Friday 6/28. I get out of the hospital 6/29. This is what I have planned...

1. I have RV reservations on the beach Monday. Everything will be per-packed prior to surgery.

2. I want to rest, heal, and walk on the beach. (no seawater exposure)

3. I'd like to bike on day 5-7

4. I have my adult son staying with me in case I need anything

Too ambitious?

Thanks!

Be careful... If you ride your bike often and are comfortable and confident on it, try... No off roads or bumpy roads.

Just remember any sudden jerks will NOT feel good. We use our core to steady ourselves... You will be sore..

I think it is wonderful you have your son to help and support you.

Enjoy the beach...

I knew if my dr found a hernia he would repair it during surgery. I am so relieved to know rhat I'm not the only one struggling with these dang chest and shoulder pains. I am starting to feel hunger pains but not interested in food. I make myself try something at meal Times. Usually get a few sips down.

I can relate to you all! I had surgery Monday the 24th and had a hernia repair. I still have some shoulder pain and sharp pain when I take a deep breath, but it is definitely better than it was a few days ago. I am feeling very weak from this liquid diet. Does anyone have any suggestions about this? I feel so shaky that I am worried about being alone. I do not get full liquids until Monday. Thanks for any suggestions!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
