Heart burn no matter what I eat

Recommended Posts

For almost a week now no matter what I eat I get a burning sensation in my stomach. I only get a few bites and bam...I feel it. I have been fine otherwise. I can eat without food getting stuck and have not had any fills in a while. This just happened out of nowhere. Does anyone else have or had this issue and possibly know what it could be from. I have had my band since Oct. 2009.

Not a clue, but please call your Dr.I say that b/c before getting banded, I came really close to esophageal cancer, due to acid erosion.

Burning is not right and only a Dr can figure out whats up.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

There are many causes for this symptom, some band related and some not. Only a doctor can give you the right advise and counsel.

I just had a similar issue and am 4+ years out too. I stopped drinking coffee and eating acidic foods... sort of a bland diet and am better. The Dr. did prescribe something for me if it recurs. I think I took a medication on an empty stomach at the ER. That got mine started and took several weeks of bland diet to get back to fairly normal. Glad I checked with the DR. because it made me feel better just getting something on hand if I have another issue.

Heartburn is a classic symptom of being too tight. Don't ignore this or the problems will get worst.

Thank you all for the good advise. I am going to call the Dr. in the morning. I also wasn't sure which Dr. to call, my primary or my band Dr. I think I will start with the band Dr. :)

I had heartburn every day so I just take one prilosec to combat it. When I'm too tight I get acid reflux at night. To me there's a big difference between heartburn and reflux. I've been banded over 4 years and the daily prilosec has worked great.

Oh yes...I know what you mean about the acid reflux too and there is a difference. I called my band Dr. and going in to see him tomorrow. They may take saline out but I am struggling to lose weight now as it is. I would prefer not to have any taken out now because most of the time I don't feel much restriction but at other times I do. I would be okay with taking something over the counter for heartburn but first want to make sure there is not some underlying reason for it. Also called my primary care and she is thinking it may be a good idea for upper gi to be done.

Keep us posted !!!

I see that your Doctor's visit was today? sounds like your too tight, he might give you a PPI for the problem. AN upper GI is a great idea as well

I had the Dr. visit. I didn't really need Fluid removed, he offered to take some out but instead I opted to take prilosec or equivalent over the counter for one week to see if that helps.

I had a similar problem a while back. I went to my dr who does my adjustments under fluoroscopy. I had something stuck in the band. He saw it on the screen. So he removed the fill.... I drank to flush it out and he refilled it. I've heard that drinking pineapple juice may help clear the band.... So try little sips. If it doesnt get better have the fill removed then flush it and get it filled. I thank god my dr can see my band when doing these adjustments!!!

I've had my band since '07. Got in the summer. Everything was great until December. That's when the heartburn kicked in - no matter what I ate or drank, it burned.

Long story between then and now, but I will say that even though I do not have a lot of Fluid in my band, it will still seem to tighten on it's own - I've discovered the weather has a lot to do with it. If it's going to rain, the barometric pressure drops or if it gets cold, my band will tighten up. It's these times I try to stick to warm liquids until it passes.

Pay attention to when you have problems that seem to pop up out of nowhere -- what's the weather like at that time?

Something to consider about prilosec is that it does take a few days to build up. I've been taking it daily for over 3 years without issue. If I stop taking it for just a couple of days the heartburn comes back. I'm not sure why I have the heartburn because even Water causes it...but the daily prilosec fixes it for me. I hope it works for you as well!

I just had 2cc removed this morning bc of reflux :( . I had a stomach virus 2 weeks ago and it my stomach was never right. Dr said my stomach was swollen around the band and it made the band to tight. Hoping this works!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
