Resturant Picks?

Recommended Posts

During the summer the girls in my office often go out for lunch. During the school year we can't go out often, so during the summer we take advantage of the layed back atmostphere while the kids are gone.

Last summer I most did soft stuff that I brought because I had just had surgery. This year I can eat with them again.

The places we tend to go are:

Subway

Moe's Southwest Grill

Buffalo Brothers

Applebees

Chic fil a

Wendy's

I use to get a 6 in sub at Subway, but I don't think I can do that now- way more than a cup. So what do you all get at these places? Or, should I just bring my lunch and not go with them?

When I go to Subway, I get sub fixings in a salad. It's really good!

When I go to Chick-A-Filet, I get their kids' meal. They have chicken nuggets that are baked (so no breading) and they are out of this world good. I get applesauce with it instead of fries.

At Wendys, I get a cup of their chili

I bet if you look up the other places online (or maybe on a smart phone app) you could find good alternatives for the other places too.

Go and enjoy yourself. At Subway get whatever meat and veggies you love and use a fork and don't eat the roll. I eat out all the time, most of the time I am perfect but I do eat bad sometimes. Do the 'girls' eat out more than once a week? Because once a week is no biggie.

Subway has salads, and kids meals which I think are a 3 inch sub. Or you could just get the 6 inch and not eat the whole thing, save it for later. Anywhere with a kids meal is good.

Applebees has Soup and salad (so does Olive Garden).

I dont really eat at Wendy's bc the fries are too tempting.

Ninety-Nine also has some sensible choices on their menu.

Dylan- they go out about 2-3 days a week. I try to eat as healthy as I can. If I know a head of time where we are going I will google the nutrition info for that place. 2 of the girls (It's 4 of us) have had Lapband along with myself. The other one is a vegitarian. One of the banders doesn't eat like she should so she hasn't lost anything the other has lost 70 and has kept it off for 4 years, but she doesn't follow the rules at all. So we are all different situation, so I don't ask there advice.

Missy that's exactly what I get at Chick fil A, lol. As for the other restaurants I would look online for their nutritional info and make choices before you get there. I"m afraid Moe's would be too tempting for me, love that place but I don't have one near me so I can't be tempted, I would have to travel to Nashville to eat there. There is a Chipotle near me tho. Haven't tried it yet but did look at their menu online and all their stuff is fattening.

At Chipotle I get 3 soft taco's and it makes 3 meals. I can eat one for dinner and one the next day for lunch (it's not bad, even cold!) and one for the following dinner. They are about 290 calories per taco. And it's delicious! At Chick-Fli-A I usually get the chicken strips and make that into 2 meals too. But I will try the kids meal next time. That sounds great too.

Everybody s giving you great suggestions and I also get the salads at subway I used to be able to eat the flat bread and sometimes I still can but I eat only a bit and take he rest for later or give it to someone in my family and they eat the rs sine we can only eat a little so if you can tolerate the flat bread that is another choice but I do really like their salads & I get the veggies and chicken put in it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
