Day 4 - Very bad gas and Nausea

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone

My recovery was going well until I flew back home from surgery. After 4 hours of flying and and one plane change I am feeling miserable. I had the dry heaves all the way home on the plane. I am tired and sore and my stomach is so uncomfortable. I am having a hard time drinking any fluids. Anyone ave any suggestions.

Standing up and walking around i found helped relieve the pain, I was quite uncomfortable and things like sleeping troubled me a few days out from surgery. I recall day 3&4 post surgery I felt like crap. I recall feeling back to my usual self after about a week, so hopefully you've experienced the worse point of it by now

As for getting fluids down, are you taking tiny sips, don't use a straw and take a break between mouthfuls.

Take your pain meds on schedule. I tried to not take them, but by day 3 post op I felt like total crap and taking my meds throughout the next 2 days really helped. Trust us...you will feel back to normal in about a week. Take care.

Wade, I got banded on Wednesday so I'm with ya. The gas pressure is the worst part for me. I try to move around quite a bit because that helps a little. I am exhausted too because all I've had since Tuesday is Water and crystal light. I just drank half a Protein Shake today so we'll see how that goes.

From what everyone says on here, I guess we just have to ride this storm out. I hope it keeps getting better and easier everyday.....for both of us!

I think I read on a post awhile back that flying can tighten your band, so that could be why your having trouble drinking. I guess you were cleared for flying after surgery, but I know it can take a toll on the body. Maybe you could look up some information on the internet. It could just be your tired and did to much with the flying and all. I know I felt real good about the 3rd day and went to the store and it was a mistake. I just did to much to soon. Make sure you keep sipping Water like everybody says and get some rest you should start feeling better each day if not call the Dr.

Welcome to the wonderful world of wls. Had the gas thing in my chest, neck and upper back for about 5 days. The first 3 nights were spent in a chair as I could not lie down. It got better and better. Would not have wanted to have flown after the surgery. You are a better man than I. Flew a few weeks ago and that was 7 weeks after a fill and the band was a bit tight when I got to Tucson for a about a day and a half. Only drank liquids. Good luck and take the pain meds for sure. It does get better. Chew, sip, chew, sip, and walk walk walk.

Flying does not affect the band since the cabin is pressurized. I flew within weeks of surgery and I have never had a problem. If you stress about flying, STRESS can tighten your band, on land, sea or air!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
