Hi There, Well my story is long....but I will try to make it short. I've been overweight my WHOLE life. I have lost 60lbs 10 times over. I had Gastric Bypass in early 2001 my starting weight was 280. Out 6 weeks I had lost about 25lbs. Out of the gate I knew I was able to eat more than other people that had this surgery. On the sixth week, I knew something was different. I was able to eat even more than I could following the surgery. I explained to my Doctor and he said I was fine and it was all in my head! I REALLY Hate when doctors say that. Don't you think you know your body better than anyone else? I pushed and he hesitated but sent me down for an Upper GI. When he walked in the room he was very solem and said we have a problem. I had a staple line disruption. So some of the food was slipping out of my pouch causing me to not feel satisfied. He wanted to wait at least 4 months to do a revision. I went back in August of 2012 and had what I thought was Roux en y. Mind you both of these procedures were OPEN. The stay for the 2nd surgery was much longer If I recall it was like 5 or 6 nights. I woke up in severe pain, very depressed and wondering if I did the right thing. Fast forward about 5 months and I struggled to take of and additional 40lbs. I STILL was able to eat more than others that had this procedure. I hit 212 and the next day I was 213 and up we went. For the next 11 years I was between 238-270.. I got married had a wonderful baby boy who is going to be 7 in August!!! I felt like such a failure.. Everyone would be like "didn't you have your stomach stapled" I was constantly on a diet. Tried to accept myself as I was but I was always so hard on myself and just didn't want to always be the FAT Girl. I started researching Band over Bypass procedures last October. Up until a week before my surgery I was still unsure if I was ready.. You know really ready.. I already knew what to expect and as much as I wanted to finally beat this I still loved food. Oh and I work/part owner in an Italian Restaurant just to add fuel to the fire.... So I had it done a week ago today June 7... I have lost 10 lbs to date. Iv'e been living on Protein Shakes, yogurt, and FF SF Pudding... I know it will slow down but I am thrilled with my progress. I think to myself... Is this gonna work or did I just do this for nothing. I tend to have bad luck like, every surgery I have had has not worked... ie 2 Gastric Bypass... still fat... Back Surgery...still have major back issues, 2 knee surgery's.... need a knee replacement eventually. So you can see I don't have the best record. I hope I can stay motivated.. I am committed to getting back to exercising, eating clean, being active and spending quality time with my family. I hope this forum will help me to stay focused.

Good luck with your new surgery. Sorry to hear the by pass failed. I am almost one year with the band and love it! Follow the doctor and dietitian's rules/thoughts and you should be good.

:) :) Love yourself. You can do it! I had my Lap Band placed in 2006 and it is the best tool ever. Once you are on solid foods track your Nutrition and follow their rules as Dylanmiles23 says in the post. Think happy positive thoughts and walk, walk & walk. Enjoy summer!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
