Annie Wilson's lapband what happened?

Recommended Posts

I'd thank her if I could. She is why I got my band. I found out about the lap band through researching Heart a couple of years ago.

I hope the news about her having the band removed and gaining back all the weight isn't true. But if it is, that was her choice, and I'll kick her butt for it when I get the chance. *grins*

HeatherGurl - Heart was a group that got big in the late 70s with songs like Dreamboat Annie, Barracuda, These Dreams, Dog and Butterfly, and Magic Man. Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson were the first girl rock band I ever heard. They still rock!

HeatherGirl,

Oh to be 24! Anyway, I digress. :-) Heart was one of the first women rock n roll groups with sisters Annie and Nancy Wilson hitting it big in 1975 and in the rest of the seventies. (Magic Man, Alone, Barracuda) They were and still are awesome. Annie has huge voice and Nancy plays guitar like a guy. Problem was Annie was getting as huge as her fabulous voice. A big no no in rock. Videos were just getting hot so appearance was key. They kept shoving her behind the scenery, wrapping her up in wierd costumes. Her own band and some fans turned on her-driving her crazy to lose weight. They sort of disspeared. But a lot of women rockers today definately owe them a lot for breaking down the hair band and rock boys club. Anyway, they did a comeback of sorts in 2002-ish. And Annie was the very first person I heard of who had this new fangled weight loss surgery called a lapband. She might have been paid by the manuf. She really went out there with it-with a video on her web site, interviews yadda yadda. I saw her live that year. The voice, the music the rock all still alive and rockin'. She lost around 60 lbs. Then silence. Nothing, She is still a big girl but isn't as caught up in the looks are everything show biz. It looks like she kept most of the weight off but they still stick her behind Nancy (the skinny blonde one) or just show her face. She always wears black. I saw them again in 04 and she looked about the same as 2002. I have always wondered what the heck happened?

I know the band is playing at Lake Las Vegas Resort on May 12th at 7pm (our gondola business has gondolas on the lake there). Anyone who lives in the Vegas area should go see them!

Yes, the manufacturer paid for her banding and maybe since she had it removeed, there is some legal stuff about her not talking about it?

Anyway, I love her cover of Led Zeppelin's "The Battle of Evermore"

Leener...

Imagine seeing you here.

My husband and I are huge Heart fans. We just went to NJ to see the filming of the Decades Live concert at Trump's Casino. The concert is on VH1 Classic all the time. You can't see us though.

I'd love to hear more about her success/failure with the lap band. I, too, looked it up and Google doesn't show any recent info.

Wow... the pictures tell the story... From the 1980s to right now.

I really do wonder exactly what happened with her and her LapBanding - but I didn't realize it was paid for by Inamed.

Interesting....

Happy Band (And Life) Journeys To All...

I also read that she has gained most of her weight back. Too sad that she couldn't break the food addiction...perhaps she also couldn't adjust to the new her. Sometimes that's the hardest part of this journey...learning to love and accept and feel comfortable in our new bodies.

Oh that just breaks my heart! (no pun intended) I wonder if she will ever tell her story. It's common for people reach goal weight with WW or some other diet plan and go back to their old ways. But I can't imagine what she must have been going through mentally to say "I want to surgically reverse what I have achieved".

And I do believe the story about her just wanting to eat again -- otherwise, with her history of obesity, don't you think they would have suggested RNY?

God that voice!!! I love heart. I am 28 and grew up on pink floyd, heart, Led Zeppelin, and boy does the list go on. If I had ann's voice I would eat what I wanted too, lol. I hope she's healthy and happy.

I saw her and Wynona on Tv at a concert of some sort a few months ago......what a team! So sad that talent like tha is kept silenced because of the package it comes in.

She was all apart of the Spotlight Health site.... Carnie was the RNY poster-girl and Anne had the Band. Haven't heard much about it though in forever.

Sharon Osborne is the only long-term public bandster I can think of. I think she got it done in 1998 or 1999, but Im not exactly sure when. I remember reading somewhere that her PBing drove Ozzie nuts. No idea if that's true.

I remember there were rumors about Anna Nicole Smith having a band... and that's why Trim Spa worked so well. I never saw that justified anywhere. Let's see...and then there's always Star Jones... but my best bet is that she's had a DS, not a Band or RNY. She just got too skinny, too fast.

That makes me sad about Ann too, she is beautiful and I love her voice. But, if she is happy then that is good. I love heart!

fabfatgrl~

You said about Sharon Osborne~

"I remember reading somewhere that her PBing drove Ozzie nuts"

I am still new to this...what does "PBing" mean?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
