I really appreciated having my blender along so I could make ice chips - sounds like you are staying overnight - trust me, it really helped me a lot - it was worth it!

all the best to you - I had the same fear as you - but here I am ;)

Anyone taken a Valium before surgery? Thinking about asking my surgeon. My hubby has some for when he flies.

Well I woke up early this morning I could not sleep in. I have 24 hrs before I leave for surgery, I have to be at the hospital by 6:00 in the morning it's my last day as a "non-bander" :). They said I should be out of there by around 12:00 noon, that doesn't sound bad. I think I'm as prepared as I'm gonna be unless anyone has any last words of wisdom. I've go my gas-x, pillow, Protein drinks, broth, chap-stick, heating-pads, I've got two just in case. Anything else? It's been great having this site to learn stuff from, the Dr. might not think of because you all have lived it, and they can't remember everything although I have to say they did a good job. I'm happy so far with who I choose. It's going to be wonderful to have a support group around as soon as I get home, that can help support me along my journey. I hope for this to be a successful journey, as many of you all have had. I know the support will be here for me when times get tough. I feel like I'm writing my last will and testimont, well I guess in a way I am. I'm saying goodbye to the old me and starting a new chapter, at least that's how it feels. I'm trying very hard not to focus on the fear of failure. The odds look good I have heard way more good stuff than bad. So keep me in your prayers. I'll let you know how things turn out. To be quite honest I think I'm most afraid of not waking up from the surgery, how often does something like that happen? Sorry so long I got carried away. Thanks for everyone's support.

Saying a prayer for you babydoll! I'm sure you're in la-la land right now, but we'll see you on the other side!

They gave me something like Valium before they put me to sleep. If you tell them your really nervous they will usually give you something.

Congrats! I had a relaxer before Anastasia too. It was a big relief. I have the same fear of not waking up.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
