Post Op Protein Question

Recommended Posts

I had my band placed yesterday. I am supposed to start Protein Shakes tomorrow. How much should I be drinking at one time and overall for the day? My paper work says to take 30 min to drink 4 oz. that means it would take almost 90 min to drink one shake. Is it possible to get the required Protein post op??

I have not been banded yet,but I know my Dr. wants me on Isopure after my surgery. They have 40 grams of Protein in them so you can get a lot more protein in with less drinking. That might help you some. oh and if your on Clear Liquids, they are clear. I found them at The Vitamin Shoppe.< /p>

Honestly you should direct that question to your doctor. I remember they gave me medicine cups after surgery that were about 1 oz so that I would drink slow. Right now its not really about nutrition its about healing. I know some people who used Ispure. They only liked a couple of flavors. I know fruit punch was one they likes. You really should get guidelines from your doctor so you can pick out your own shakes and drinks.< /p>

sip and sip and sip some more

the first week or so, you will be swollen inside..and hel is 100%

right, your dr is the one who should explain the post op instructions if unsure.

If you still have them go back and exchange for new flavor. I heard the fruit punch taste like kool aid.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
