New To The Journey and Saying HI!

Hi! I have been reading this awesome forum for a week or two. So much information! I am on information overload. I am just in the very beginnings of this journey, and trying to choose a surgeon. Even though there's only a few in my area (Buffalo NY), it's still very confusing.

I am so grateful for this site, I've learned so much already!

Welcome! I am fairly new to the site as well and I agree loads of information. Good luck with your search, I know that can be a bit frustrating trying to find the right fit. I ended up choosing the one closer to home as I figured it would make it a little easier to be compliant long term. I love the group that I have been working with as they are all very supportive and helpful and I am only preop right now, surgery in a week and one day. Starting to get a bit nervous, but am ready for the journey!

You've got questions, we've got answers. Welcome here.

I am just starting my journey. I have a consultation set up for Tues. and they have told me my insurance has approved. I know I will find out all the details Tuesday but I'm curious to know if everybody has to do the six month medically supervised weight loss before doing the surgery? Is it usually the insurance that requires the "six months" or is the usually a prerequisite from the doctor? And if it is the insurance is the 6 months something that has to be done before they approve? And since my insurance has already approved then maybe I won't have to do that step. Or like I said above is it the doctor requirement?

Welcome and congrats! I am waiting for approval now. I found this site not too long ago. I am currently reading the book they mention on the site. I recommend. It pretty much covers everything and is an easy read.

I had to wait 6 months but different insurance companies have different rules.

Sounds like you'll find out on Tuesday! Good luck and let us know what you find out. I think it's great that the insurance has already approved you
