Feeling weak on pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

I hate this feeling. I have so much that I need to do and feel like crap/weak most of the time. I have finals at school right now, work is crazy busy, had to stop mowing after I cut the front yard today because of feeling weak/lightheaded. This diet sucks. Hopefully this feeling goes away soon. I still have to mow the backyard, write a paper, go shopping for a B-Day party that I'm going to tomorrow and the most fun of all WORK Lol. Oh well, sorry for being so negative. Today is day 6 of pre-op diet, my dietician told me the weak feeling would only last a few days. I'm not finding this to be true....

Medifast and health wise products (5-6 a day). Unlimited SF Popsicles/jello, Water. The products are very low cal, low carb, no sugar, high Protein. They also taste like dog food for the most part. I usually end up around 6-700 calories a day. At least 100 are Popsicles Lol. I drink tons of water 12-16 cups usually.

I'm not even gonna try to blow rainbows and sunshine at you- that pre op diet positively sucks. I'd be light headed and dizzy too!

I know you're probably already on Protein over load, but do eat as much protein as you possibly can.

Also, are you taking a good Vitamin? If not get one. You may want to consider a B12 supplement too to help with your energy.

Hang in there, you're almost through this :)

Thanks. I'm not on any Vitamins right now that's a good idea. When I get this feeling I'm allowed o have 2 oz. of juice to get quick carbs/sugar, which seems to help. I'm just frustrated overall, but I knew it wouldn't be easy!

Today is day 6 of 14, I'm almost halfway through this pre-op diet. My dietician said if you are really struggling with diet to email her and she approve a chicken breast or salad. I emailed her yesterday, still haven't heard anything. I'd cut off a finger to eat a chicken breast right now Lol

I was told no Vitamins A week before surgery. I'm on Medifast too, I kno how u feel, add half a banana or 2 strawberries into a blended medifast with ice- it does wonders! The shake becomes more fluffy and so much filling- don't do it every single time just when u feel like ur falling apart. We got this!!!! I lower my sugar levels in a two week span to the lowest I've ever had- after seeing that I feel I can do anything! :) best of luck to u my dear!

Don't cut off a finger!! I thought of the lower energy thing too. Its going to suck...no doubt about it. One day at a time Creekwood...you've got this!! Think of all the lawns you can mow in two years...without getting winded or taking a breather!

On a good note I have lost 10 pounds in 5 days! I don't want people who haven't started their pre-op to be discouraged. It definitely works! My biggest complaint is lack of energy, but not everyone has this problem. It'll be worth it, and I'm probably just being a baby Lol. Some people are on clear liquid diets, now that would be tough!!

You can make this happen. Remember, it is temporary, but the success your going to have will NOT be temporary!! Hang in there. Push through. You have already made it six days which is impressive on its own.

I agree with all of the above! Making it through pre-op diets renders one a complete Rockstar!! I was one of those on a clear liquid diet only with Protein shakes. I likened it to boot camp or jail.......it is breaking down my spirit so I can be pumped back up better than ever!

You got this Superman...you got this!

Side note: If you can put off the "to do list" or ask for some help......this will conserve energy. I didn't clean the house at all before or after surgery. I just didn't. It all worked itself out after I could eat again!

Good news! My dietician approved for me to eat a chicken breast with a non-starchy vegetable and a salad! I have found that being VERY precise with spacing my 5-6 meals and drinking drinking drinking (water) does help, as well as having a couple ounces of juice If I feel shaky. I am halfway there and feeling motivated to keep pushing through! Thanks everyone! I went to my nephews birthday party yesterday and watched everyone eat burgers, hot dogs, baked Beans, potato salad, cake, ice cream etc... I drank my Water, BUT I actually felt pretty good. I felt in control. I wasn't sad or mad that I couldn't eat the food. I felt proud that I was able to politely say No thank you when I was offered cake, Cookies etc.. The pre-op diet isn't all bad, it definitely helps you realize how strong you can be!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
