Stool softners help though stay away from laxatives because they cause cramping.

This is TMI, but if it's "right there" but you can't get it out, I would try a suppository or enema.

Going forward, drink LOTS of Water and consider a daily Fiber supplement.

unfortunately it's very common with the 'new' way of eating. I take a stool softener every day and eat salad fairly regularly as that is what my dr. said would help me to 'keep regular'. the salad must be Fiber I guess....

Here are some suggestions from my lapband surgon:

1. drink plenty of Water try to get 8 glasses in a day of a cup each or more

2. try mirrilax it is an osmotic laxitive and if taken before bed depending on how bad the Constipation is you may see results the following morning.

3. prune juice drink 1/2-3/4 cup before bed

4docolax supositories

5. a tblspoon. of mineral oil before bed (yep down the hatch) apparently this does work iv'e never tried that one

I've been using this tea each night and it's helped if you don't mind drinking a cup of tea before bed:

As far as laxatives go, Miralax is the best. Non-stimulant, no cramps, mixes with Water - tasteless. Typically, it takes a couple of days for it to work, but it's something you drink every night for a period of time. It's not like other laxatives that you take at bedtime, and need to be seconds away from a toidy all the next morning :o

Another one that works GREAT is Milk of Magnesia tablets. But the tablets are kind of big, and may be too difficult to swallow. But the liquid (as gross as it is) works great, too, and it's gentle.....no cramps.

I think the best thing is to find a permanent solution. As Barb5227 mentions....probiotics work fantastic. When I take them on a regular basis, I have no difficulty. And they're excellent for gut health.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
