Gallbladder removed today

Recommended Posts

For those who have had both the band and gb removed, what is the comparison as far as pain, recovery and diet?

I will never give up on my band, it's only delayed!!

Thank you so much

I had an open gallbladder surgery 20 yrs ago (at age 25). It was really infected so they couldn't do it laprascopically. I woke up with an ng tube in my nose and in unbearable pain. I was constantly asking for morphine every 4 hrs. Spent 6 days in the hospital. So....my lapband was a piece of cake! I've had foot surgery, knee surgery, 3 laparoscopys for infertility - and the band was by far the easiest.

Good luck! The uncomfortable stage is over quickly and your life will be back to normal soon

I don't know about pain as far as the lap band since my surgery isn't until May 1st, but with gallbladder surgery I had very little discomfort and did not have any gas pain. I also had a surgery 6 months prior to my gallbladder being taken out and they had to use gas as well to expand my abdomen, I did wake up with a little shoulder pain, but that was it. I'm hoping this up coming surgery is like my other ones with little discomfort. The thing that bothers me the most is that I have anxiety and panic attacks so I'm scared of just thinking of surgery even though I have had 7 surgeries in my lifetime. When do you get your band on?

I had an appt April 19th with the LB surgeon . I had to postpone it until the 29th. Which I think is way too aggressive.

My GB surgery was not planned. I am treating it with many of the tools I learned on this forum. Heating pad on stomach, walking, liquid diet only and the pillow hug to get in and out of bed.

It's painful but I am coping. I want to prepare myself if they are about the same or if either is worse.

I think, that is from memory of 11 years ago, that my lapband waa easier. But, I did have gas pain from the lapabnd surgery. My advice for both is to walk as much as possible. I learned from someone, who had stomach surgery many years ago, to walk as upright as possible, too! best wishes on healing from both! Karem

Had lapband surgery nov 2012, had gallbladder surgery mar 2013. Gallbladder surgery was a breeze, no gas pains, nothing. Same dr did both surgeries.

WOW! I must be a total wimp because I am off for 2 weeks. I am in total pain and not doing much of anything.

To me the band recovery was waaaaaay worse I couldn't hardly move for about 3 days after. My gallbladder removal recovery really wasn't bad at all.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
