Hi all! First let me say that this site is such an encouragement.

So, I am in the process of getting cleared by several different doctors in hopes of receiving the Lap Band in August. My doctor has me on a 40g of carbs diet until my surgery date. I'm pretty much on the Atdkins diet. Did anyone else have to do this? And for those who have already been banded, have you had to completely cute out all carbs and sugars t be successful in your weightloss?

From day one, I never counted anything (calories, fat grams, carbs). I just ate till I was satisfied (after my 3rd fill and restriction was felt, of course). It's why I got the band in the first place - so I would never have to diet again!

Alot of people with band do watch their carb intake however. I think it may be due to the fact that high carb items (bread, Pasta, rice) have a hard time with some banders getting down. They tend to get stuck easily.

recently, however, I've been counting calories. I've gained a few lbs after some complications so I need to reel it in and get some control!

Good luck!

Marci

Everyone is different and has different needs, but I don't do the whole low carb thing. I make sure I stay within my daily calorie allowance and get at least 60g of Protein in a day but I don't restrict carbs. I just try to make the carbs I do eat healthy ones.

The key is to figure out what works best for you and your metabolism. I've lost 200 pounds without restricting carbs so obviously I lose well while eating carbs.

Best wishes.

While you're on the pre-op diet and the post op diet, it's really important to follow your doctor's instructions exactly.

But once you're past all that and back to normal food, don't be afraid to figure out what works best specifically for you and your body. We're all different with different needs and sometimes trial and error is the only way to find out what works and what doesn't.

If the fruit only has to be avoided due to carbs, Del Monte has no sugar added fruit cocktail and peaches. I'm one of the low carb banders :), but my max is 60/day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
