All I can tolerate is liquids, soft and mushies

Recommended Posts

I will soon be 10 mos post op and I'm very sick right now, coughing my head off, nasal drainage, fever, and sore and swollen throat from coughing so much. I tested negative for strep and flu. Tried to eat an egg this morning and got sick and stuck then followed up with a bite of yogurt and also threw that up from gagging. My throat is so sore and swollen that it is giving me a sensation of gagging and a wanting of throwing up all the time. All I can tolerate is drinking, did have greek yogurt this afternoon and some Soup tonight. I called my surgeon but he didn't seem concerned, oh well. Guess I will be sick for the next few days and deal with it. Glad I just bought some Protein Shakes. Still not convinced its not the flu, sigh.

Sounds like the flu to me! I'm not sure if you can tolerate it but you could try the Mucinex liquid for cold/cough/sore throat. It is soothing to the throat but may upset your tummy due to it being strong. Did they start antibiotics since they say it isn't flu or strep?

yes the doctor today gave me a Zpack and an inhaler since he heard wheezing. I went to a Walgreens walk in clinic yesterday and they tested me for flu, it was negative, but today I saw a doctor. I may have some mucinex. I will give it a whirl tomorrow, thanks for the suggestion. I might could try some crackers and let them get soft in my mouth before I chew and swallow then take the mucinex.

So glad you got zpack you should feel so much better soon. If you don't go back you don't want to end up with pneumonia that could cause all kinds of problems! Hope you feel better soon :)

Flu season is not yet over. I am a recruiter for a major MA hospital. All my new hires must get the flu shot until the the chief doc declares the season over; and it has been radio silence on that front.

I had similar symptoms this past two weeks. The doc said sinusitis. Rx for amoxclav cough Syrup, and the true god send for me, the 12 hour time released musinex! After a few days on the musinex, I felt almost back to normal. The congestion in my chest and post nasal was pretty much gone. Could not take the antibiotic, and did not need the cough syrup after the mucus loosened. Good luck! I felt miserable too. Hope this helps and you are on your way to a speedy recovery!

When this happened to me and I had to have my band emptied the throwing up and cquse it to slip I am surprised your surgeon did not have you come in to look at the band with a floru if you still cant keep anything down insist on it.

thank you everyone for the well wishes. I got some sleep last night but awoke very early this morning coughing and nearly peed my pants, lol, oh the joys of being a middle aged woman I guess. I have a recliner in my bedroom so I moved from the bed to that and slept for another 3 hrs. I thought I had some Mucinex but didn't so I'm sending my mom out today for some. This stuffiness has moved into my head now. May just sleep in my recliner tonight as its comfy enough. I hate that I'm going to miss church tomorrow but certainly don't want to contaminate others so will stay home. Just ate a bowl of cream of wheat, tolerated that well and it was yummy to me. Not much of an appetite so I'm eating when I'm hungry. Yesterday I only had a bowl of Soup, a few bites of fruit and a greek yogurt. Trying to stay hydrated as much as I can. Water Water water and more water, with crystal light of course. lol. Again, thank you all for the well wishes.

Flu season was over the 1st of april. I work for a large hospital system and flue season runs from october 1st to march 30th. If you are still giving new recruits flu vaccines then you are wasting money lol

still feverish, achy, coughing a lot, congested, headache and feeling down right awful today and since my cough had gone on since Tues the dr I saw yesterday gave me a Zpack, now I have diarrhea from that, sheesh, I can't catch a break. Was able to eat cream of wheat this morning and some Soup for dinner. My mom had a delicious looking salad tonight I wanted to dive in so bad but knew better, knew I'd get stuck so just ate my soup. My head is all stopped up. Be glad when this mess is all gone.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
