Okay, I fell asleep on the couch last night before I could take pain meds. So I wake up all 3:30am and decide to take my pill. I chop it up into 4 small chunks and proceed to take the first piece with Water. It gets stuck and I have had trouble all morning.

I tried to drink a shake and it was way too thick. I guess I will try some coffee next to see if that relaxes anything.

Tight morning band sucks.

Keep up the fluids, it will dissolve eventually. Don't force anything down or the pills could scrape the side of your esophagus and cause more pain. Good luck. Hope the rest of the day improves.

I crushed my pain meds.. then after a few days I did liquid tylenol... it was easier for me to swallow without getting stuck... I have a real fear of that...

I never had problem with pills. Took them normally (at the time, I was on about 11 different meds), in like increments of 3-4 pills, not the whole 11 at 1 time. I even take Gabapentin, which is a horse pill. Now, 3 1/2 yrs later, I only take 4. So I guess thats progress.

Take it slow. You'll get there!

Went to church and had a coffee from thier coffee shop and sat thru the service, we even did communion today(had a very small piece, took like 20min to dissolve).

Everything feels ok now. I currently haven't had any pain meds or pain for that matter. Guess I just have to get used to my body doing it's thing in the morning.

I didn't have to take it long, but my surgeon gave me liquid pain meds after surgery. Otherwise my everyday meds have all gone down well, even after 2 fills. Actually I always have trouble taking pills I cut up, even before surgery. I used to take half a cholesterol med. Always end up coughing them up and trying again which gives me anxiety, ha! I hope you manage better from now on. :(

I think you are correct, I crushed mine and put it in my shake, it gave me a huge head rush. My. Mother-in-law told me it was because it gets absorbed faster just in your mouth.

Pain meds that are extended release, they are not made to be absorbed into the system all at once! We had a kid in our area that crushed pain meds to take them for a high and died of an overdose! Extended release drugs should never be crushed! I hope your feeling better soon!

I only took pain meds for the gas pain in my shoulder and that was soluble paracetamol left for a few minutes for fizz to go flat!

I get banded April 17th and I was just taking about communion today--our church uses the round, unleavened wafers. You mentioned a smaller piece taking 20 minutes to dissolve. What do you do, cheek the bread and go sit back in the pew? I was just taking today about doing something similar. I'd hate to get stuck on the body of Christ--yikes!

It was at the very end of the service, so we took communion on the way out. They had wafers broken into smaller pieces so I had one the size of a dime. It made me realize how much my stomach has healed, God works In mysterious ways!

Agreed-He does. How long was it before you could take communion without having issues?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
