Acid Reflux?

Recommended Posts

I have had my band for two years and although I was slow to start working out and making healthy food choices and a bit hard headed a times. I'm down approx 70 lbs and now working out daily and making better choices. Although I've noticed my weight loss is picking back up I've started having bad acid reflux in my sleep lately. It's not every night but I'd say it is frequent. Does anyone have suggestions? I used to take Nexium for acid reflux for ten years before my surgery but haven't needed it since I had surgery until lately and it hasn't stopped the reflux. Does anyone else have this problem? Does it have to do with what I eat or what time I eat, how soon I go to bed after eating? Thoughts?

Your story sounds exactly like mine. The exact thing happened 2 years out. I went in, had a brium swallow. Luckly it had not slipped but some how "kinked up" they took .75 cc's out then in 2 visits a month apart I got it put back. Good luck to you

Missy is right, see your Dr. Untreated acid reflux can also lead to very serious problems with your esophagus.

Thanks guys! I took my Nexium tonight so here's hoping for a good nights sleep. I called and left message for my surgeon and nurse about the night reflux. I'm going back to Clear Liquids in the mean time.

I made an appt with my surgeon tomorrow. I'll be sleeping sitting up tonight. The reflux was terrible last night and I've been sick several times in the last 24 hours. Hoping I get some answers tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.

Hope you got answers! I battled reflux for over 2 years after my band. Finally switched doctors and had a barium swallow and found I had a slipped band. Just had surgery and they found a hiatal hernia and now have a dilated esophagus. Feeling better but only a few days post op. Dont mess around with reflux!!

Whitlow (and everyone who responded) thank you for this post. I just had my band tightened and started having night reflux a few nights ago. I haven't thrown up, so am hopeful it's just too tight. I'll make a doctor's appointment too.

Whitlow- any word since your doctor's visit? Hope all is well.

Thanks everyone. I saw my surgeon six weeks ago and they said my band had slipped. Not prolapsed but just slipped. It was sitting sideways apparently and a little too tight. I was at 6.5 cc of saline and that was too much for me. They took all saline out that day and told me to come back in six weeks. They said that it was very inflamed and swollen. They think that it had just been too tight and that caused the night reflux and vomiting which then caused the band to slip. I was glad that they explained to me there is a difference between a slip and a prolapse because I was confused and thought that any slip meant surgery again. It's now six weeks later and unfortunately I did put on some weight in those six weeks because it was basically like I had a normal stomach again and could eat anything I wanted and handy been able to eat for two years. I put on 12 lbs but that was expected and normal per my head nurse at the hospital. When I went back yesterday they put 3cc in and I feel much better. When I did the swallow test with the Water it went right through and I was sitting down so that was great. The last few months I was so tight I had to at standing up and I'm glad to not have to do that now. I'm back on liquids for yesterday and today and will go to soft/mushy food tomorrow and Monday. Here's hoping I can do better and stay focused this time. Thank you all for your help.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
