Anyone from NYU Langone Weight Loss ?

Recommended Posts

I'm in Huguenot.. I had 1 fill and I lost 39lbs so far.. I still feel like I'm "dieting" but I think 1 more fill will put me in my "green zone"

Wow 39lbs is great, congratulations!

We should start an nyu group on here.

I'd love to do that dani. I don't get to the Wed. support group...I usually have PT that conflicts with the meetings. We should check with the other ladies on our 'Hi' thread like NYCTeacher, and Bubie, Karen, etc. I also invited two new folks to that thread who I met surfing the forum. Mark is on the UWS and Zinhaa is on Long Island. Turns out she and I went to the same middle and high school in Brooklyn.

Hi all! I was banded by Dr. Ren in 2010. I absolutely love the practice. Hopefully I'll see you all at the annual dinner Cruise around NYC this summer.

Hey there, Just had my first consultation a couple of weeks ago. Still up in the air but leaning towards doing it. Have to go through the entire 6 month process of trying to get approved now, but nervous. Would love some insight on the band. I'm someone who's battled weight my entire life and food is an addiction. Sick and tired of the yoyo dieting and constant feeling like crap. Would appreciate any and all info on the band, life after etc... My surgeon is Dr. Schwack.

Welcome. I had Dr. Ren as my surgeon. I was banded on January 14th and I've done very well. I'd like to lose a total of around 120 lbs. and I am a little more than half way there. I've lost 63 lbs. so far. I had a powerful motivator to have the surgery. I have severe arthritis and was risking being able to walk at the weight I was before being banded.

Most of the folks on this site have been through the same thing food wise.....food addiction, yoyo dieting, overeating, etc. We're all fat for pretty much the same reasons.

Just so you know, some folks do better than others. This is still a diet..or a lifestyle change...whatever you want to call it. But I have found that the band keeps me fairly satisfied between meals and I am eating just a fraction of what I used to consume. I must must must measure out my food and I keep a food diary so I can know just what I'm eating. I've gotten more info on this site than anything the nutritionist or even the doctor provided at the office so keep reading while trying to stay away from the horror stories.

Good luck on your weight loss journey. If you are motivated and eat per the rules...small bites, chew well, eat slow...you should be fine. FYI, I can't give you any advice on stuck episodes or productive burping or how it feels to have fills as I've experienced none of those. I'm one of the few who is doing well without fills....and because I have no fills, I find that I can eat anything. I just eat it in moderation. Some things I don't bother with at all because they are just empty calories...like ice cream or candy. If I want something sweet, I've learned to love sugar free pudding, Jello, pops, etc.

Keep us posted on your progress and let us know how its' going. There are a number of us from the NYC area who've been banded at NYU and we have a separate thread.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
