Cramp in my side. Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am 7 days post op and starting yesterday I have had a cramp in my side, it feels exactly like a stitch or cramp you would get from running. Had anyone else experienced this?? I keep searching on here but i haven't read anything similar. I think I must be doing something wrong, eating too fast or something? Or maybe it's gas pain? I'm taking pain killers and using a heating pad... But the pain doesn't seem to want to go away. It feels sharper when I take a deep breath. Please tell me it's normal!

Hi! I had a lot of gas pain after my surgey. It was really sharp and would get worse when i breathed deeply or moved around. My nurse told me to take gas x. It kind of helped some but what really helped was walking it off. Id walk around my room and take the gas x i think every 3 or 2 hrs don't really remember. But if it gets worse or something u should call ur doctor. Hope u feel better soon! Hang in there! And congrats on ur surgery! :-)

The other thing you have to watch out for is Constipation. Walk for the gas, but make sure once you start food that you are adding Fiber. We lose that with our new menu.

Well everybody is different. My doctor told me to rest as much as possible the first 3 days and than start slowly walking around the house but no exercise type walking before my first follow up which was about 3 wks after surgery. But if u feel strong and up to it i guess do walk but u know take it slow. Ur still healing. good luck with ur new journey and u have found a good place to talk about ur concerns this site is awesome! :-)

Try to walk around and if possible...try to pass some gas. It sounds funny but it might help

I am having the same pains. I was banded 8days ago.Yesturday was the first time I went out and about all day, i may have overdone it or I think I my problem may be that I need to have a BM. I will call my Dr if the pain persists.

Yes! I was banded 12/6/12 and had that same thing for a few weeks after surgery. Mine was on my left side, just below my rib cage (my port is on the right side.). I don't think very many people get that pain. Nobody on Here had a response when I asked about it and my nurse didn't have much to say either. It finally subsided.

I'm having that feeling too. My port is on the left side if my belly button but I feel the pain mostly in the right side between my hip and belly button. It hurts worse when I breathe deep. I'm 4 weeks post op. I've had this pain for about 2 weeks. I asked the nurse at my dr office and she said it was unrelated with the surgery. I thought maybe it was from IBS. Do you have IBS? I'm not sure if its not from Constipation. I have skipped a day here or there

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
