Recommended Posts

i was banded a week ago today and have started my soft food diet. i feel like i can keep going and going (which i dont) but i dont feel the restriction like i thought i would. does that restriction come when the fill is at the right amount?

Some people feel it straight away without getting any fills. I'd say that most people don't though and require fills to get to that 'green zone' where they're not hungry, a little bit of food satisfies them and controlling how little they eat is relatively easy.

For some that takes no fills, for some (like me), quite a lot of fill. What I did was 'diet' and exercise until I felt it. And I put 'diet' in inverted commas coz that can take a lot of forms. For me, it was just about Portion Control and eating only when I was hungry.

Everyone is different because it depends greatly on your anatomy. Some people never need a fill yet others don't feel like they have a band at all until they've had multiple fills.

You say you feel like you "can keep going and going". Please keep in mind the band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating. So even when you do have adequate Fluid in your band it will still up to you to control your portions. Here's a link I think you'll find very helpful:

Best wishes to you!

Restriction is different for everyone, some do not need any fills, I am 5 months post op and just had my 4th fill and am feeling restriction, finally. The first 6 weeks for you are for healing, not losing, so be patient and follow your dr's instructions. good luck.

Its up to the individual. Some people have it right away and some have to wait until they get fills.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
