Is it weird that I can eat soft food already?

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days out of surgery. And I'm aloud to eat chicken noodle, chicken and rice and vegetable Soup on my plan. So I tried and can eat canned ravioli home made chilli and chedder and brocolli soup from Panara. I can eat it with no pain. I only eat less then 1/2c. Is this weird to be able to do this?

Were you given a post-op diet to follow? I'd stick with what the surgeon recommends.

still early post op for you..could still be very swollen inside...lucky nothing has happened...its best to go by your doctors instructions (to allow your insides to heal).

No. Not at all. I've always thought most of these post-op diets are far too cautious. I was allowed to eat pureed and noodles 4 days post op and mushies 8 days post op.

However, I see many people post here who find it hard to even drink Water a week post op. If your doc says it's OK, follow his guidelines.

Panera stuff is high in calories I think he meant chicken Soup from a can not stuff from panera. If he said you can go to soft foods I think he meant like campbells chicken and rice soup.

As long as you are following your doctors post op diet, that is fine. Every doctor has different post op instructions for various reasons. If you are unsure I would recommend calling your doctor to verify what you can and cannot eat.

Good luck to you.

I don't think that's weird that you are able to eat those foods you listed- they're soft foods and some will slide right thorugh your band. I do, however, think that this stage of your surgery is for healing and what I call "training mode". We are being reprogrammed to think, eat, and function like a person without an eating disorder. What we do now, in my opinion, is going to set the tone for the future. The more we give in and go off of our doctor's plans, we're only hurting ourselves. I recommed that you follow your doctor and nutritionists recommendations in order to ensure optimum nutrition and weight loss. You can do this! Just stay strong and don't give in to your temptations! :)

Oh I should also mention that I have a rare kidney disease. And salt and Protein are bad for me. Have ever seen the sodium in Soup? even low sodium is 900. I have already checked with my Nephrologist he said to try not to go to far. Great huh, I have IGA nephropathy. So I got this cause it will help after this protein phase. I talked to my doctor she said to make home made soup. But how many times can you eat chicken noodle. Thanks for the input. I will see my doctor in 2 days and talk more about this.

I too have IGA nephropathy and wondering about the protein intake. My nutritionist wants me to put in at least 80g of protein. I am going to ask my nephrologist about this next time I see him if that is ok and what is his take on how much protein I should be taking per day. Did your nephrologist told you how much protein can you have per day?

I was allowed the can Soups but I was told to blend them. I agree with others stick to what Dr says. Also those soups are not really mushie. They pretty much diseagrate. quickly.

I was allowed full liquids within 24 hours, mushies within 3 days and solids in a week. I had one day of Clear Liquids. Those were my dr's instructions so that is what I did. Every dr hones their technique for the way they do surgery and let's face it, some are cautious and some are confident. My dr had been doing lapband surgery for over 8 years when he banded me so if he told me I could eat, I ate.

I don't think it set me up badly in the long run either, because I had a lot of success with the band and over a long time too. Just don't depart from his instructions because right now, he's YOUR expert when it comes to your band.

The only time I eat this is lunch and dinner. I follow everything else. But I have one more question. Cause my doctors paper doesn't say. Are you not supposed drink during Snacks or only after a meal?.......breakfast,lunch and dinner.< /p>

PS: Thanks guys

My drs orders are every time I eat wait 20 minutes to drink . If you aren't sure about something calling your doctor would be the best bet.

No he didn't. I have to see him in a month. Do you get headaches from salty or fryed food? Mine are nasty. It's like a Migraine.< /p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
