First one for May???

Recommended Posts

I heard today that the doc is away on May 7th so because of the trip...I can't have surgery until the 14th of May. Kind of disappointing but at the same time...will give me more time to prepare! Catwhisperer are you going on the same day as me or April 30th?

Likely it will be the 14th which was my original surgery date - I won't have enough time to prepare for the 30th. I tried calling but Annie was gone for the day, so I will find out definitively tomorrow! Hey, while we are at it - do you have any objections to going first thing in the morning? I wouldn't have to stay two nights if I can go a bit later - but only if that is convenient for you!! let me know :)

I was hoping to hear from the scheduler today to tell me that the Nurse Practitioner cleared me for surgery and to schedule. I'm hoping to schedule it for May 6th or May 13th. Instead I heard from the Nurse Practitioner that she is waiting to hear from the anesthesiologist to figure out which method of DDAVP (a medicine that I have to take pre-surgery) I will be using. IT has been a pain in the butt. I have a bleeding disorder and I had to meet with my Oncologist stating that he recommends the DDAVP before surgery. He stated that I could use a nasal spray ($60 out of pocket), or an IV infusion ($1300 out of pocket). The NP said she will talk to the anesthesiologist about which method he prefers. I am already paying 13,000 for surgery, he better pick the nasal spray! Without this stupid bleeding disorder I would have been scheduled 3 weeks ago. MY Oncologist said that my bleeding disorder puts me at a very very low risk of bleeding with this type of surgery and said that DDAVP isn't absolutely necessary but he recommends it as you can never be too safe. I'm just ready to schedule it so it can feel 100% official. The NP said I should hear from her tomorrow. I hope they are fine with the nasal spray.I'll stop venting now, Lol.

My surgery date is May 15th, which is the day before my daughter's birthday...cat whisperer, did I read that you also had a daughter with that birthday? Small world :-)

Not full on dieting yet, just watching calories trying to keep it within reason. I travel a lot for work and the constant restaurant meals are what did me in. Looking forward to having some fellow bandsters...anyone else in Southern California?

I am totally fine going first thing...I can stay at my parents the night before or just leave home early...no worries...you can let reception know that and if they're worried about it I can send them an email to confirm. I'm too excited...this is going to be great!!

Looks like my surgery will be the first week of May! Gigglypug, I'm in Northern California.... But we're in the same state! Where are you going for your surgery?

Creekwood - sorry to hear about your frustrations. I hope they approve the nasal spray for you - what a huge difference in cost!!!

gigglypug - Yes, my daughter's bday is May 16th :) It is a small world, for sure. Love your screen name... I used to have a dear little pug - my best friend has two. Welcome to you and light lady!!

So, sure enough I am still having surgery on the 14th. Leanne, that is very sweet and considerate of you going first that day. You have no idea how much easier that makes it for us - I really appreciate it! LOL that we will meet in person probably "high" as you say, haha. You must be getting very excited for your trip at this point!!

Scheduled for May 6th! I will have to have the IV of DDAVP so $1300 it is. Oh well. I guess if you are already paying 13k what's another 1300 Lol

Creekwood, sorry to hear they took the more expensive option... but glad things are still going ahead for you.

How is everyone doing? I think Leanne is in Hawaii right now, hopefully having a great time :)

Every surgeon has a different pre-op diet. Some have none, 2 week liquid, Meal Replacement, 3 day, 5 day, Lol. It literally depends on your surgeon. I will be on two weeks of medifast Meal Replacements. Good luck!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
