Port & exercise

Recommended Posts

I have been walking for months and months but now that I am 2 months post op I am really trying to switch things up a little. I have taken 2 different classes that have some type of abdominal exercises. Well, in one of them, you need to lay on top of the stability ball. The other is a sort of plank. My problem is is that I am putting too much pressure and weight on my port and it is extremely uncomfortable. So I tried to modify it but doing traditional crunches and even that puts pressure on my port. It seems like it is pretty close to the surface. I have already lost 30 post surgery and I plan on losing another 50. Does this get better or has my one modified exercises even more so than me?

I never give it a second thought....other than it sticks out like a big lump and is annoying when I do something that puts a lot of pressure on my anterior....

So it isn't painful if you if you are putting pressure on it during exercise? I am just frustrated because my abs need some serious TLC, lol.

This isn't really fitness related, but my port hurts even in jeans! It's right above my belly button and about four inches to the left. My doc said the can move it for me when I'm at goal and place it under the muscle. (I've lost 70, and have about 25 to go!) I guess it's just under the fat and stuff right now...

Mine hurt also at first I thought something was wrong, but I guess since I've losing weight the tighter my jeans are. Lol and I guess that puts pressure on the port area.

Try standing ab work. I'm more than 5yrs out and I feel laying on it can be uncomfortable. Not sure if that's normal or not lol

I am doing Pilates and there is a LOT of ab work in it. My port hurts all the time because the muscle it is sewed into is being worked. It isn't unbearable, just very achy and noticeable. I think it is worth it to me to endure it because the workouts are so good and I am toning up. I also have a very high tolerance for discomfort, so your mileage may vary.

Mine hurts often too, but I'm very short waisted. I was hoping it would go away soon. Oh we'll.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
