First fill in a few days, not sure what to expect

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, So I go in on the 30th for my first fill and I'm super excited!!! I'm not so sure what to expect, Is it going to hurt, am I going to feel any different? Also I wanted to get feedback about when most of you really started to notice the most weight loss, A lot of people say around 5 months for after 3 or 4 fills, but I know that everyone is different. If anyone has any advice I'd love it, Thanks!

Hi, I just got back from my first fill. It was absolutely nothing. My Dr. explained the whole procedure before he started. You lay on the table with your hands above your head. He first inserts a needle to deadened the area, does not hurt at all. I could not even feel it. He then inserts the fill needle, again could not feel anything. He had me sit up and drink Water until I could feel it go down. He then takes the needle out puts a bandage on it. DONE it took only a few minutes. Of course I was nervous but my Dr. is so nice and comforting. Im on liquids for 24 hours so i will have to wait until tomorrow to feel the restriction. I have lost 14 pounds since my surgery 12-28-2012, 25 all together. I notice the weight loss and alot of myfamily and friends do too. Started feeling hungry yesterday, so thankful I received a fill today.

Ditto on Shady2121. My dr says 48 hrs of liquids. All in all an easy process.

My port scar healed over so well that he says he needs to tattoo it so he can find the port easy, LOL.

Getting a fill is nothing to worry about. If you do a small crunch they're better able to find the port. With my first fill only I felt this odd cramping like sensation in the general area of the band when I get up from the bed that I was lying on. Not painful at all just odd. Definitely followed your doctor's Post fill diet requirement!!! I can't tell you how many times I've read on this site someone saying my doctor told me to be on liquid for 24 hours after my fill but I ate solids and now I'm really sick!

I am a bigtime needle phobe but my first fill was a piece of cake. I didn't feel anything. The only thing I experienced that I haven't seen on here was a very slight tight sensation in my throat. It's so vague I can barely tell its happening. I have has two fills and felt this both times. My surgeon said it was normal.

Everything that I have read is that you should do liquids for 24-48 hrs then mushies again for a little bit then solids so you can ease your way back in. I am still pre-op, but this is what the packet my surgeon gave me says.

So' date=' after 24 hours of liquids, do you go right back to solids then? Or soft foods first for awhile?[/quote']

Your surgeon will tell you and from what I have read, they differ

thanks everyone for the feedback, my doctor is great so I'm sure itll be nothing. Cant help but still feel a little nervous. I can't eat at least 2 hours before my fill, then liquids for 48 hours then back to mushies for a few days then I can eat regular food. I just hate how I'm starting to feel hungry again, This past week has been kinda hard for me and staying on track due to my time of the month which I know you ladies can understand lol thanks again everyone!!

I'm having my first fill tomorrow. I planned it so that I can go straight to work - will I be able to do that?

I've lost 19 pounds altogether so far since my banding on 12/26/12 and hope the fill will help me keep it up. I feel some restriction but think that I am eating more - though nowhere near what I used to - so I am ready for a fill.

Congrats on the weight loss! You're off to a good start. You should have no problem going to work after a fill.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
