Surgery Scheduled for March

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone :) I've been on vacation for a while. Maintained my weight and lost a couple of lbs. on vacation. The best thing was that on this vacation, I fit so much better in the airplane seats and could buckle my seat belt with no effort! Two years ago when I went to Hawaii, I hid my seat belt area because I was too embarrassed that it didn't fit around me and buckle. It's these tiny victories that make you so excited!

Going for my 3rd fill on Monday and hoping that I get some restriction. I haven't had much of anything yet. I know that I also have to get back into the gym. Being a teacher and being on summer break has caused me to be a little lazier and slack in the exercise department. Now that I'm done with vacation, routine will be starting :)

Love reading everyone's posts. I'm learning so much from all of you!

So I had my 3rd fill on 6/27 and that first weekend I didn't think I had much restriction but now I certainly do!! Yay!! I guess the restriction took a couple of days to really feel it. Now I feel satisfied. Can I eat yes but I don't feel the need to eat for at least four hours. Today I stayed busy and only ate a handful of cashews until 4. I drank a lot and I can really see the importance in that now.

Hoping for some better weight loss this month!! Last month I lost 2 lbs but I weighed in the afternoon when all the other weigh-ins were in the morning.

So I am officially losing weight were people are starting to see the difference and now I am falling apart. I think I am at the point where I need to kick my own but into learning not to wait until I am hungry to eat and eat smaller bites. I have the hardest time with this. I had to start taking Biotin to help because I am not getting enough Protein and my hair is falling out. Good thing I have tons of it. I feel better in my own body but seem to be feeling run down as I cant seem to get enough protein. Any suggestions for easy protein other than Protein Shakes?

Have you tried nuts, Peanut Butter? I like tilapia and tuna

Sorry about my rant yesterday I was so frustrated. I am enjoying losing weight but having a hard time with the consequences. I started taking Biotin I hear that it really helps. We will see. I have just started with peanut butter as it goes down easier than I thought, I think this will be a new staple for me. The tilapia my husband made this week stayed down for the most part. I have a hard time with nuts because I eat too many and do not chew enough. It is such a learning process.

Thanks for the input.

I understand where you're at!

I've had a lot of stuck episodes lately even though nothing has changed as far as fills or what I'm eating. I find that I'm "tighter" in the morning so I still stick to a Protein shake in the AM but I'll blend it with Peanut Butter to get the extra Protein and better flavor.

And as long as I don't let myself get too hungry, I'm ok. Just have to eat so darn slow. And over a long period of time, like an hour to finish a salad with grilled chicken.

My weight loss has definitely slowed down which feels frustrating until I look at pictures of myself from January and happily don't recognize that fat face!

Hang in there March Bandsters!

Morning all, been too long since I have been on. Super crazy month in July with road trips or camping at least 3 days out of every week. Had my second fill on July 21st but only .25 cc. I felt I needed one since I really feel no restriction right now and the head hunger was getting really bad. Seems that the weight loss has also kicked in the menopause symptoms big time. Having terrible hot flashes both day and night. But--have not let any of that stop me from really work on this new lifestyle. Because I am a teacher I am on "vacation" and so have the extra time to really exercise(which I have always hated) Start each morning with either a 30-45 minute walk/ jog or run(an unbelieveable event for the old me). My energy level is great and my stamina is so much better. Treated myself to some new dresses last week when a friend talked me in to trying on two smaller sizes which I thought would never fit--bought them both(on sale CJBanks for 9.99) Helped to see that change since I was a bit frustrated that the scale was not moving all that much and I have been working so hard. Have found that the fitbit keeps me moving and motivated also- if I don't have my 10,000 steps in before bed I run in place till I get them. Stay strong March bandsters!!!

Try eating differently. You certainly don't want to eat like this the rest of your life.

I didn't eat any salad for the first year because, it is just filler. Not enough nutrition for the substance you are eating. Try chicken and green Beans or broccoli instead. Find things that when you eat them, they stick with you. Also, I would never be so tight that I can't eat my Breakfast. You can't do that the rest of your life either. I only drank Protein drinks the first couple months when you are learning how the band works. The longer you stay on Protein Drinks the less "normal" of a life eating you will have.

The only reason I say these things is because it worked for me. May not for others, but want people to know things do work when you eat real food. I lost 165 pounds in 14 months. Eating real food and exercising every day. One fill, 2ccs.

Experiment with food, not fills!

Hey there everyone!!! Hope all you March Banders are doing well. I am getting closer and closer to my goal but with the rain that came into my area recently I am suffering so bad. All the sinus drainage is making me unable to keep much down. Anyone else dealing with this??? Any suggestions? I have tried fruit juice like orange and pineapple because I was told the acid would help break it down and warm coffee neither did much. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Jenny

Started at 235 - at 189 lbs now - slow and steady seems to be the way. I am fine with that, as I can really eat almost anything in the small portion size - so I like that. I am going to go for a small fill and hoping to get longer time before I get the hunger pains. Hope everyone is puffing along the road to health and happiness

@Karina150: How cool of you to check in. You've done great! How are you feeling?

I've had complications with my band, sadly, so I'm not a success story in that I'm not at my goal. But I am pleased with the weight I did lose before my complications set in. I'm now a "traditional dieter" just making sure my lost weight stays lost, but that's ok. I'm not looking to ever revise--that's certain--and will have to take the rest of my weight off the old-fashioned way. Too bad, because when my band worked, it was AMAZING!

Anxious to hear from the rest of this cohort.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
