when should I get a fill

Recommended Posts

I'm 15 days post op n am wondering; how do I know when to get a fill? I guess I'll feel hungry but I don't get it. If we're eating small portions shouldn't we get use to that n not need a fill. My doc said he gave me a small fill at time of surgery and I'll get a fill @ 4 weeks post op. So I've been eating 1 cup of food about 3 times a day n 1 snack a day (bout 1/2 a cup or fruit blended) I make sure most of it is Protein n I pretty much feel satisfied. When I get hungry I eat. Why would I all of a sudden start feeling extra hungry again? Honestly I'm a little scared to get a fill because I don't want to get that stuck feeling ( whatever that is) n I read peeps say their band is too tight n what not. I know if I tried I could eat more but I'm stopping at my 1 cup limit.

Hey Brann. I am post op december 18. I am due to get a fill jan 30. I too had a small fill during surgery also. Your dr will tell you when it is time to get a fill. I think the wait time is 6 weeks if it needs to be adjusted. I too am not looking forward to it either.lol... i feel more hungry also and feel like i could eat more. I eat 3 small mels and 2 Snacks a day and still feel hungry. So call your dr because he is the best one that can answer that for you and about your meals. Good luck.

I do feel satisfied tho. I'm not getting full but I know that I should not get full. I know I could eat more but haven't tried cause I wanna stick to the 1 cup. I would eat a whole cup of rice n everything else to go with it before so I know more fits or maybe not since the band. I'm not about to try tho. Lol

Brann - I had surgery on 12/21 with no fill. Had my first post op on 1/4...no fill, just checking in. I'm scheduled to go back the 2nd week of February. They said they would do an aggressive fill of 4cc's (10.5cc band). I am just now at 3 oz of Protein with 1 tablespoon of veggies, three times per day with no Snacks and I'm totally not hungry or have any cravings. I asked the doc on 1/4 if I'm losing weight and feeling fine by the time I come back, can I opt out of getting a fill. They said absolutely. So if I continue at this rate, then I'm not going to get the fill. I would rather wait and get it when I absolutely need it, which I imagine will be when the time comes to maintain my weight. However, if you feel you need the help and aren't losing, then I think you should go for it. It's supposed to be there to help you along. But if you feel you don't need it and are continuing to lose weight, then speak up and tell them you don't want a fill yet. I believe you should be able to make that decision, not your doc. At least that's what my doc said.

Im 4 weeks post op. Went for a fill today. To my surprise I have 4cc since surgery. I added another to make 5. So I am half full. I did a lot of pushing from the table and didn't give into stomach growls (banster hell). Dr was pleased with my progress. Don't think getting fills is bad or bc you are doing bad. They are to help you on this journey and make it easier on you

When ever you and doctor agree it is time. No one on here can tell you as each person's experiences with the band are different. I have a good friend who has lost almost 100 pounds with NO fills. FIlls so not do the work, they just help you do it!

I'm glad you posted this. That's exactly what I'm talking about. I'm loosing weight n feel satisfied so why get a fill, right. Either way in gonna go see the doc just to talk n ask Q's I may have. As long as I can keep track n control of what I'm eating if not then ya I'll need the fill to help me. Thank you

Thank you. This answers my question. If I'm still feeling satisfied at my appointment I'm gonna see what my doc says. I don't even know how tight my band is. Like I said the doc told me I had a small fill at surgery but I didn't even ask how much. Wow a big pat on your friends back. Congratulations to her

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
