Getting stuck?

Recommended Posts

Well I must say I too am really enjoying this site as a resource. I am about half way through my pre op diet to be banded in 11 days. I have a question about getting "stuck" what exactly does this mean? And what strategies do people use to get unstuck?

Thanks

Getting "stuck" is when you forget to chew enough or eat something that is just not band friendly. Just remember to chew till food is almost liquid, put fork down between bites, and don't take to big of bites. It is something you will have to experince for your self.

If your get stuck to often you might be to full. always speak to your Dr. if getting stuck is an everyday accourance. I tried to eat alittle bit of rice to day and rice is not my band friendly. so Yelp I was stuck. Took about 2-3 minutes but it went down!!!!!

Good luck!!!!!!!!

I won't sugar coat it, it's not a pretty sight. I've been stuck several times. At first learning my band and what foods I can and cannot eat, haven't been stuck in quite a while. For me, I salivate something terrible, I mean it just drips out of my mouth and then comes the slime, this thick slimy mess that you spit up and then if your lucky a PB (Productive Burp) where the food will automatically just come up without effort and then sometimes not and you throw up which you do not want to do a lot. I yet have tried steak, scared to and can't stand the thought of chewing a piece of steak that long, ew! Rice isn't my friend either nor is bread but toast is ok. Most of my stuck episodes were eating in a hurry, taking too big of bites and not chewing well. Now my bite sizes are the size of my pinky nail and I chew chew chew. Good luck.

Getting stuck hurts and it is the best way to learn how to take small bites and to chew properly!

For me it feels a lot like when I was a kid, in a hurry, and Mom made me eat a PB&J before I could go play. Ate way too fast, didn't chew it well and gulped. Pretty soon there'd be a lump that usually required liquid. A stick, however, is worse because only time will get rid of it. Sometimes a fair amount of time that only feels like forever...

Chew your food well and give ample time between bites.

And trying to wash it down with liquid doesn't work. Like a plugged drain, you don't want to pour in liquid.

Not only chew good but take your time. If I eat too fast I can get stuck on yogurt. I have had some serious stuck issues and with every fill I got I had to learn to eat just a little slower and chew just a little more. I NEVER (knock on wood) get stuck anymore. It all becomes very natural habit after a while (some of us are slow learners)

Good Luck!

I've never been stuck... I take tiny bites... the size of baby finger nail. I also make sure I finish what I have in my mouth before I take my second bite.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
