To Spanx or not to Spanx ??

Recommended Posts

That's my question. I'm full of silly Questions.

Has anyone worn any kind of shape wear after banding? I used to live in my shape wear. But I'm hesitant to wear it since surgery...going on 3 weeks post-op this Thursday.

I am afraid my camisole shape wear will push on my stomach and cause issues.

Just wondered if anyone wears it and has been OK or heard if its frowned upon.

Oh I wear mine all the time. I was banded July 2012. I didn't wear it for a few weeks because I was scared of messing up my incisions, but it was fine once I felt they were completely healed. It hasn't affected my port or anything at all. I use the shapeware because it gives me a nice shape and it helps with the flabby skin that's developing as I lose :-P

Spanx isnt going to hurt the band. The band in around the stomach on the inside of your body and wouldnt feel any effect from Shapewear. :) Its much like being pregnant... your body will protect that baby from the inside... same with your band... unless of course there is a majot trauma to the outside of your body.

Shapewear away......

Thanks everyone. I got out my Shapewear and feel so much better. I'm down 25 lbs since my 12/20 banding so they even fit a little better. Less worry about their snugness. ;) Can't wait until I don't need them anymore!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
