I am sitting here watching the biggest loser and the trainers motivate the contestants. I can't help but feel like a failure, like I couldn't do it on my own. Then I start thinking do I really need the lap band? Why can't I do it on my own? Am I taking the easy way out? I just want to feel good all around and I need a little help. This is why I chose the procedure. Surgery is Thurs. anyone feel this way?

I watched the show too. Those people are far from doing it on their own. They are away from their lives and responsibilities and in the gym five hours a day. I am getting banded in less than two weeks so I'll see how I compare to the biggest losers by the end of the season ???‰

But you aren't a failure at all....I needed the band to reach and maintain a health weight, past experience tells me this. It's most definitely not the easy way out and I can say that at only 3 weeks post op. The band is a tool that if used correctly can let you live a longer, healthier life and that's a really good thing. If it was easy to lose weight and not gain it back we all wouldn't be here on this site. You may well be able to lose all the weight by yourself but can you keep it off, look at your past history, I myself have lost and gained too many lbs to count....so I look at it like I'm not failing by getting a band, I'm just taking an opportunity to make my life better, I will still have to work at it, I will still have to exercise....the band does it's part but you have to do your part too, that's not failing in my book!....Best Wishes and good luck at your appointment! :)

I don't feel like that all. If I had someone to cook my meals for me, the top trainers in the world, and someone essentially running my life I could lose the weight too. However, someday the cameras and specialists will be gone, do you really think they'll all actually keep that weight off?

The band is a tool. Their tools are all the professionals running their lives, our tool is the band. The difference is, their tool isn't going to be there to help them forever. Ours will.

I love the biggest loser btw but yes like everyone has said before they are far from doing it on their own going through that type of training is probably more expensive and more dependent on someone else than surgery is. you can actually go to the biggest loser resort if you pay THOUSANDS of dollars ive looked into it. lapband is a tool that staying with you all your life to HELP you through this journey that YOU ALONE can only do. i love the biggest loser only because it motivates me to get up and go to the gym they have people on that show that are as big as i once was so i always look at them and think if they can do it so can i :)

The easy way out? Not at all. In fact it is harder then my past dieting to be honest, but in a different sense.. a permanent one. It wasn't near as easy as I thought it was going to be, even though I am in band hell right now.. work hard for good results. I have had my struggles, believe me and I just had my band on Oct 22nd 12. You are still going to have to make the right decisions to put into your mouth.

That being said, it is still the damn best decision I have ever made for myself. Even though I have recently fall off the wagon for a week or 2 >< I am getting priorities straight, and I am learning quickly that you only hurt yourself when you mess up like that. It's a learning process like anything.. and you have to want it bad..! Good Luck on your journey! :)

destynee is so right. Please do not say this is the easy way out. This has been very difficult but the best part is, it's not impossible as my previous efforts were.

I dvr'd the biggest loser with all intentions on watching this season. My friend who is making these lifestyle changes with me (non-banded) started watching it as I was busy doing other things. About 30 minutes into the show she texted me and said I'm sure if I had someone preparing my meals every day and pushing me until I puke every day I would have this whipped! With that being said I deleted the show because I refuse to compare myself to that show! I am determined to make my lifestyle changes work for me and don't need to see ppl being screamed at and puking and crying to do it! I will keep my motivation from others just like me here on this forum!! THANKS FRIENDS!!

I watch the Biggest Loser for inspiration only. As others have said they are 24x7 working on their weight issues and they have a lot of help going through the paces. I have days where I cannot find time to get to the gym like I would. I have an hour commute 1 way to work plus parents in poor health, not to mention my wife and household. I am not making excuses at all about not getting to the gym but just pointing out that there is no one handling my responsibilities while I focus on weight loss. Have to find a way to juggle that into every day life. Making good choices along the way is key.

In my opinion failure is a state of mind and failure is not an option!!

I got the band to lose the weight yes... but bigger than that I got the band to keep the weight off.

Thank you Floridays. That is very important to remember and often times easy to forget along the way. We focus so much on the journey of reaching a goal but there is a bigger picture to consider.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
