How did you all go about telling your family and Friends you wanted/needed the lapband! My family and Friends are very supportive but I am worried about telling them?

I didn't make a big deal out of it. First hubby and I discussed and I decided. Then I matter of factly told people as the need/situation arose. I didn't tell people in a formal announcement.

I just had one person to tell - my husband. I figured it was no one else's business and I will tell who I want when and if I want. After my first meeting I came home with my information, approximate cost, etc. and just said this is what I need to do for myself. I made the information available and let him choose how much he wanted to know about it.

Myself, my husband, and my mom discussed it...my mom is helping me pay so she had to know. My mom kind of has a big mouth and told more people then I necessarily wanted to know. Ive told one person at work. My immediate boss is nosey and keeps asking what kind of surgery I'm having. I just keep responding I don't want to talk about it now, but I'll be ok.

If you don't want to tell just say female surgery.... That shuts anyone up...lol

With the benefit of hindsight, I can assure you that the prospect of discussing important matters such as this is far more daunting than the actual event!

I didn't want to tell anyone other than my husband and our sons for fear of judgement or that they would try to talk me out of it. Surprise, surprise, everyone I discussed it with said they were pleased that I was doing something so positive for my health.

Same thing when our son came out - my husband, in particular, was extremely worried about telling his sisters because they are quite conservative and old-fashioned, yet when he did, they were wonderfully supportive all round.

It's really not possible to predict people's reactions.

Good luck.

well, my friends, family and hub knew by looking at me that i had a weight issue as i kept getting bigger and bigger. at my highest weight, i went in search of help.....with our military insurance, i didnt think i would be approved and then i found one.....told hub and he was all for it..i am pretty lucky in that area with the support...i told a few people at work for i was off for 8 days...i say tell who you want.....this surgery is to help save your life and get healthy. nothing to be ashamed of...and if they dont understand or say something stupid, just consider the person has no idea of the surgery or how you feel...this is just how i feel..congrats on making a great decision...if you want it, do not let nothing stand or get in your way.

I haven't told many people, but those I did tell I just came right out and said, "I'm pursuing lapband." They of course had questions...but those I've told have been very supportive.

I actually called my Mom up the day after my seminar and starting blubbering into the phone...she couldn't understand why I was crying. For some reason, telling her was very emotional for me. But she fully supports my decision, which is awesome!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
