January 2013 Bandsters Unite

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I'm getting my band on Jan. 24th in Houston, Tx!! I like many of you have mixed emotions as well. I'm excited one minute and then I get nervous the next. The excitement however out weighs the nervousness. I can't wait to be banded!!! Good Luck to all of you! :)

I have my final visit with surgeon, nutritionist, and EKG Monday. Start my preop diet right after for surgery on the 25th. I talked with my partner tonight and now she says she doesn't think I should do it? She's concerned about the risks.

It worries me... The risks. And asking myself why can't I just give it a good strong "diet" try for a few years and lose the weight that way. But I've tried and yried and failed so many times.

Anyone else nervous e? And second guessing it? Failure rate is high, extra skin is almost a guarantee, and what's this I hear about it slipping or eroding or my body rejecting it?

My husband also asked me why I couldn't just do it on my own--he is a little scared for me, and wishes I didn't have to do something so drastic. For a moment, it really hurt me (he's been super supporative up until now) until I realized that was his issue. Not to sound mean, but my issue is my weight and my health and my future. I'm 34 years old, and I've been overweight for most of that time. He's never struggled with his weight. From where he's sitting, it looks like too much--it should be easier. From where I am, it's what I have to do to save my own life. Right now, I'm very healthy with no concerns, but I know that won't always be the case. So, in spite of his opinion, I'm moving forward with it, and he's back to 100% support. He'll benefit from me being healthier, too. :)

I went today for my pre admission testing. I had to go to the weight management center for a 2 hr power point, then off to the hospital for labs, ekg, chest x-ray and pre admission. I requested to be the first surgery of the day and my wishes were meet. I have to be at the hospital at 6:30am and surgery is at 8:30! SOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!

Oh surgery is Jan. 9th :)

Me, too! I have to be there at 5:45 AM, and I'm supposed to be in surgery by 7:30 AM. Only five more days!

I just joined Lapband Talk. My surgery date is 1/14. I'm not really nervous but kind of jittery because I want it to happen so much. I started the pre-op diet and have already lost 5 pounds in 3 days.

My date is Jan 28th. I go from being super excited to extremely nervous! Right now I still feel like I have to eat everything I won't be able to eat later. My pre op diet starts Monday and I am dreading it! As all other diets I have failed with I am not so sure I can handle this one for 3 weeks without cheating. I'm on a really bad chocolate binge right now...ugh.

I am doing the same thing but my pre-op appointment is next week so I will have to stop this soon. I feel like I have gained 10 pounds in the last week alone.

I'm in NM. Everything is a little backwards at the moment. Because of the holidays and the schedule for surgery and pre-op not being posted earlier. I was scheduled for 1/14 for surgery. Started my diet 1/2. and will go for pre-op 1/9. The pre-op clinician called me today because she was confused and I had to explain what was happening to her. :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
