December 2012 --- Band Buddies Unite!

Recommended Posts

I know how it feels to see everyone else's "big numbers". I have only lost 32 lbs. I now have about 6cc in a 10cc band and I FINALLY feel like it is working. I am just not hungry most of the time. I find myself not wanting carbs or "bad food" and a large meal just seems so overwhelming and does not happen. I am trying to learn to concentrate on getting in my Protein because I just don't feel like eating lately. I have about one week a month (ladies know what I am talking about LOL) where I feel hungry now since my last fill. I am still about 60 lbs away from my goal weight. I am at 186 and I want to be at 126. I have a feeling I will probably actually want to stop somewhere around 135 or 140 though. Anyways, I have had 5 fills and feel like I am doing well. I hope everyone else is doing great as well!

Ok, I was banded on 12/28/12 and I still don't see a weight loss in the mirror. My scale says I've lost 55 lbs, but I just don't see it. My clothes are looser but certainly not falling off. I have a pair of pants that button at the waist so that is my guideline. When I can see those pants fall below my hips then I'll accept I've lost weight lol. I still have 67 lbs to go to reach what I will consider a reasonable weight for my age (145 lbs would be my goal weight but I wouldn't mind being 135).

My fitness pal is my best friend and I follow it religiously so I'm proud of that.

I am so looking forward to the day I hit ONEderland.

Wishing all my December binders good luck as we continue on this journey!

I know exactly how you feel. A lot if my clothes still fit and I am going to keep wearing until I can't. They are loose on me but not to the point where I feel I can get rid of them. The good thing is I have a cousin who is in my highest size so my clothes are going to a good home piece by piece.

naturallyjai: you shouldn't think of it as being stalled - you've lost 60 pounds! i've lost almost 58 pounds (i was banded on dec 19). you are doing amazing with only 3 ccs in your band! i have the same approach as you - everything in moderation. i refuse to be on a diet - i am eating the same today as i plan to eat after i reach my goal. there are no foods that are off limits' date=' i just make sure that my portions are appropriate. good luck on your journey :)[/quote']

We were banded in the same day! I keep thinking that my calorie count will decrease as the surgeon increases the Fluid. I am on his timetable. I don't call him to go in. I only see him for gradual increase every two months. I refuse to deprive myself if things I want. Trust me, I am a very grumpy girl if I don't have something sweet every now and then. Life is too short to give up every little thing that brings you comfort. I want to lose weight as much as anyone else but I refuse to be miserable while doing it. LOL

I know the people who post higher numbers started with much more to lose. Congrats on making it to Onederland!!!!! I still have a long way to go before I get there. Don't be discouraged. Some of us just had farther to travel so the pounds seem like a lot.

I had my 4th fill saturday and had my first stuck episode today. I even spit up' date=' a first for me. I think this may be it. I feel restriction like I never have before. Maybe this is the green zone I hope so.[/quote']

Pay close attention to how and what you are eating. You should NOT get stuck. Some never reach the green zone. It is about eating small healthy portions and lots of exercise. People should not think that getting stuck is a good thing! Best to you!

After the initial weight loss which can be a lot for some' date=' loosing 1-2 lbs per week is a good average.

For most it seems if they want to lose more they have to exercise more and not eat back their exercise calories.[/quote']

Tara, you are right on spot! The only way you can lose is by burning calories!

Hi Everyone!

It's been awhile since I've posted but I'm still hanging in there. It's been difficult because my activity has been very restricted since I have plantar fasciitis and what was thought to be tendonitis (turns out to be a tear) so I was told no walking and no treadmill. I tried Water fitness classes but had to stop after the third class because it was making my foot/ankle injury worse. I was going to start swimming and get an Air bike' date=' but then after 8 weeks of physical therapy it was determined that rather than tendonitis I have a tear so I'm now scheduled for surgery on June 12.

Along the way I had a couple of fills and have been uncomfortable for a couple of months ever since I went over 4cc's, experiencing soreness and discomfort and a few stuck episodes. I had to have Fluid removed from my band in preparation for my upcoming surgery so I'm hoping that my band is just irritated and with some Fluid removed things will settle down and I will be able to get a little more fluid added once I'm up and around. It's going to be awhile before I'm able to exercise again,so I'm trying to stay postive and looking forward to when I get the okay to start again. Not looking forward to surgery since if everything goes well, I'll have 2 weeks in a splint (no weight bearing, have to use a walker), then 2-3 weeks in a cast, followed with another 2-3 weeks in a walking boot and I'm sure there will be more physical therapy. If all goes well I should have a complete recovery in 4-6 months. I pushed my surgery back a week trying to get a bunch of stuff done beforehand, but my ankle/foot doesn't want to cooperate with my plans.

I was so happy to be taken off BP meds (found a new and better cardiologist), but that was short lived since I will probably have to resume medication since my echocardiogram did not come back clean (I have an extensive family history of cardiomyopathy - no immediate family members left), but that's just how it goes. I was getting discouraged because I felt like I should have lost more weight than I have, but despite my exercise limitations and still trying to get my band adjusted to the right amount, I have managed to lose 50 lbs! :D [/quote']

You can do it! I just had surgery last Thursday. They did not remove any fluid, but I have only had one fill. I will be non weight bearing for six weeks. I can honestly tell you that I AM NOT hungry! I am doing PT three times a day so I am counting that as my exercise and I still log all my food. Make sure you take Miralax every day as the pain meds really stop you up!

The month of June makes six months for us. Have you had your six month bandiversary yet? Mine was yesterday and I went today for a fill. I've lost a little more than 60 lbs. And if I'm not in green zone I'm this >< close. I feel I'm lucky as I don't think I had any struggles or difficulties. I'm also quite thankful for that.

So how about the rest of you? Anyone want to reflect on the last six months?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
