Tomorrow is the big day!

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I am headed in for surgery. I'm in an outpatient surgery center which is nice and very close to my apartment (in NYC) and my mom is coming in for the day to take me home.

I'm trying to tie up all possible loose ends before I go in! Make sure my clothes are accessible, my trash is taken out, my dishes clean and all that jazz.

Any advice for any post-op MUST HAVE's I should have accessible near my bed?

Wish me luck.

Hi there and Congratulations!!!

It has been 2 weeks today since I have been banded! I am so happy. My recovery went very smoothly. I wrote every thing down day by day. Remember every DOCTOR recommends different protocols, this is just what I WENT THROUGH!

Day 1: Tues Dec 4

Lots of discomfort and Pain. So tired and sleep, dozing in and out of sleep

Tightness in stomach area while drinking, probably due to hernia repair.

Walked every 90 minutes even though I didnt want to outside for short bouts.

Slight ains in left shoulder area. used heating pad. pain subsided. Lots of internal gas

ate Water and chicken broth

Day 2: Wed Dec 5

Discomfort and pain. So tired and sleep, dozing in and out of sleep

Tightness in stomach area while drinking

Pains in left shoulder area. used heating pad. pain subsided. Lots of internal gas, very bloated.

slept well. Walked about 6-7 times outside.

Day3: Thurs Dec 6

Spreading out pain killers. Slight discomfort, bearable. only low gut.

Tightness in stomach area while drinking. So tired and sleep, dozing in and out of sleep

No more pain in shoulder area, lots of internal gas still. Walked several times outside. slept well.

chicken broth and Water

Day 4 Fri Dec 7

Stopped pain killers, minimal discomfort.

Started eating pureed cream of chicken heart healthy Soup, 3 oz and full.

Day 5 Sat Dec 8

Had a BM.

Internal gas much better today. last night slept slightly on my side,

Went food shopping, got some fresh air. big hiccup and tightness in chest.

Water very hard to get down at times....so slow and gives slight pains.

Day 6 Sun Dec 9

Had a great night of sleep. Tightness in chest for about 30 minutes. (hernia repair)

Went to birthday party today. Got nauseous as soon as I got there. It was hot out, omg so much food. I grabbed my drink and sipped. I eventually sat in my car, I didn't want to risk vomiting.

Evening: Feeling better this evening. Still I feel an uneasiness

Day 7 Mon Dec 10

Got very hot and sick today. little queasy. I have had the runs since early am.

Still like a sticky feeling when I drink liquids, not Soups, just liquids, especially water.

Day 8 Tues Dec 11

Feeling more energetic today.

Soups fine, drinking water I would say slightly better.

Lots of bathroom trips today . Runs.

Saw doc today, he said two incisions are healing very well. He weighed me lost 19.5 including 5 day pre-op diet. He said keep up the great work! Gosh, I am feeling so happy!

Day 9 Wed Dec 12

Feeling great today again, things are getting back to normal. I keep losing weight .5-1 a day.

Bowels back to normal. Christmas party at work, had them puree Soup for me. It was hard but I sat there and only ate soup!!

Day 10 Thurs Dec 13

Moms birthday. My sister and I took her to a raw/vegan restaurant. I had soup, delicious. about 9 bites and I was full.

Day 11 Fri Dec 14

Feeling great again, perhaps a little tired. I was allowed to start having mushy foods. Gosh tuna fish and cottage cheese never tasted to good!!

Day 12 Sat Dec 15

I had two christmas parties today!! I got through them perfectly!! I ordered off the menu and ate very slowly and took 75% of it home! I am going to save 200 plus a week just in food!!

As of today Dec 18 I am down 26 since Dec 1.

Good luck!! (listen exactly to what your doctor tells you)

This is what I had by my bedside:

1. Heating pad

2. anti-biotics

3. pain killer

4. gas x (never used it)

5. water to sip and ice chips

6. ipad

GOOD LUCK, YOU ARE GOING TO DO AMAZING!!! THIS IS A NEW LIFE FOR YOU AND ALL OF US!

Let us know after surgery how it is going!!

I'm on day 2 and i would suggest Water, multi vitamin(liquid) ice pack for your tummy, heating pad for your back. Milk of magnesium and gas x mouth strips, pain medicine and lots of movies!

I also suggest lots of pillows to prop yourself up, cause laying down hurts bad...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
