Eyes bigger than my pouch

Recommended Posts

My Eyes are bigger than my pouch. Several times I have made/gotten more food an I can eat. Does this happen to you? I am so glad I have my band, it helps me stop eating. Am I the only one?

Yes it happens to me, that is why i still measure and weigh my food. I do not trust my eyes, they still think I need more than I really do.

It definitely takes some getting used to... eventually you get pretty close :)

I"m curious. People talk about weighing. My nutritionist suggested I use measuring cups instead of the scale. Does anyone really know the difference?

I focus on 1/2 - 1 cup of food.

I weigh my meat and measure everything else. Don't know if that's right, but so far it's working.

It took about two years before I stopped serving myself too much. Nowadays I panic my band isn't working and I'm eating more because I'm not finishing th meal stuffed with food left on my plate. In reality, I've got the serving size right!

Happens all the time....we learn....

That's the beauty of the Band...no matter what we may try to do, overeat or eat the wrong foods, the band is there to slap us back into reality and prevents us from being the gluttons we once were.

After a while, new habits...new lifestyle is formed.

I still find myself picking up a dough-nut, lets say, but one bite and the new reality slaps me in the face and I throw the entire thing away.....

Lessons learned....you don't see skinny people grabbing dough-nuts on a whim....either do banded people.

I find I don't serve myself enough now if I can't measure my food. May not seem bad however I head for Snacks later. I prefer to measure in a cup & leave some.

I also weigh my meat and measure everything else.

And yes, my eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach. Last week I was driving across the country (literally) and was at the mercy of random diners and truck stops for food. I can't tell you how many times I ordered WAY more than I could ever possibly eat. In fact even last night, my boyfriend made lasagna for dinner and I only ate maybe half of what was on my plate.

Yep, at first it was really bad. I would see just a small amount on a plate and thing geez I will be starving in a little while- nope. Now I see the small amount on my plate and I think yeah, but when we go out to eat and they bring a huge plate of food- I think holy crap I can't eat that much and go ahead and ask for a box. Honestly it's great because use to go to a resterant eat and appetizer, the dinner and then dessert. I am lucky now if I eat the dinner, most of the time I get the meat down and leave some veggies- some places I just get a box and put half the food in it from the get go- just depends on where I am and what I order.

Don't know where I heard this, but it stuck with me. Prepare your plate as you would for a four year old. Healthy four year olds don't eat much at all!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
