To Fill Or Not To Fill....

Recommended Posts

Had appt to get a fill today, doc decided to wait til the end of Jan. Down another 5 lbs, total of 55. He was pleased with the weight loss (as am I) but since I was doing well he wanted me to get through the rest of the holidays. He did however, spend some extra time with me discussing my diet. The turkey (not the dr,) the bird, at Thanksgiving did not agree with me to well.

Left overs wouldn't go down and when they did, wouldn't stay down. He then proceeded to remind me of too many carbs and not enough veggies. Although bumed out by not getting the fill, I appreciated the reminders and the time the doctor gave me and I have to keep an I CAN DO IT attitude until then.

I cannot recall how many times I was SURE I would get a fill and after a discussion with my Dr did not. SInce I saw him monthly for the first 18 months... I bet he talked me out of a fill 5-6 times. And it would turn out he was right. Only twice did I plead my case and get fills he wasnt sold on me having. Turns out I did need them but looking back I may have been able to plow thru without them.

A good Dr knows the questions to ask and the conversations to have with you...and they are usually right.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
