What size do you want to be?

Recommended Posts

It has been so long since I wore anything in "regular" sizes...and in the interim, the vanity sizing has caused a HUGE difference in sizes, so I'm clueless...and goal-less.

I know that, back in the day, what was a size 12 for Marilyn Monroe would be about a 6 now.

I read about people (about my height) who are wearing a 12 or 14 but who are FAAAAAAR heavier than I was back when I wore those sizes...and my first instinct is to wonder why they would lie about their clothing sizes, since they OBVIOUSLY are larger than that. But they aren't. The sizes have just REALLY changed. So I have no goal...how sad.

Why is everyone here shooting for 10-12'ish? Why not single digits? We have the ability to be as skinny as we want. Why not shoot for a size similar to the people you see laying out in the sun in Miami or Malibu. Come on people, imagine being a size where you fit in with the people getting a sun tan on the beach. That's my goal, I want to be a size where I can run around the beach in a pair of shorts and not be embarrassed.

Its not about being skinny, its about being healthy.

Fitting in is not about the fat you carry or don't carry around your belly, its about the attitude you carry in your head. I can fit in anywhere I go.

I'd love to be a size 14, but I'll settle for a 16. I'm 5'10" and I realize now that anything less than a size 14 would make me look to skinny.

I was wearing a size 28 when i started my journey.. I am now into size 18s Mostly . Some of my 20s still fit pretty baggy but stay up. I would love to be back to a size 8. I would be estatic to be back into a 16 right now but i need to get off my arse and get moving.. movement keeps me from gaining.

where ever i end up is where i really need to be. be it a 14 or a 10 or GOd WIlling an 8 or a 6. Just know ing that I am allowing myself to be molded into the person I have always felt i should be on the outside is a a great acomplishment for me already!!

best of luck to you all.

I am currently a 16W or an tight 18 regular---I am getting banded tomorrow...during pre-op my 18's are not tight any longer. I hope to get to a size 10...or maybe an 8 ( that might be a little greedy!)

Aren't sizes so strange... Here I am in an 18M and I weigh 262 right now!!! I am 2" taller than you though. What a difference 2" makes...

I am almost 5'8" and I currently weigh 216. I am in mostly 18, 18W,some 16 and 16W. I have never been in a 16/16w in all my adult life. I do agree sizes are a bit larger. Single digit sizes for me would be incredible. Realistically, at my age, a 10/12 might do it. I'm still gonna go for single digit though. At this point I am more jiggly in an 18 than I was at 22 years old!!

What a cool thread idea.

Heck, I don't know what my 'goal' size is anymore.

I was so fat for so long that anything without a "2" in front seemed like a gift to me, LOL.

I'm a Shopper - and I absolutely love clothes.

So my initial goal was to get into any normal store (not designer, just 'normal' store) and be able to fit into something off the rack... I got to that point.

And now I can pretty much wear any 12-14 top and 14-16 bottoms depending on the store. (I have to wear Tall or Long in pants sizes, so I'll never be exactly "off the rack" but now I can generally buy clothes in most places.)

Cool.

( CONFESSION:

But normal store clothes is not what I desire.

Nope!

Not even close.

I want to be able to wiggle into Designer Sportswear brands. In little "Junior sizes."

I mean, brands like
(I could usually wear the tops but can only just get into the more casual, sporty
Bebe Sport
clothes now *after* losing weight, sigh) are what I crave and I am nowhere near their jeans sizes yet.

Ultimately I desperately, desperately, desperately want to be able to fit into a pair of true designer jeans (like
Citizens for Humanity
- or as I call them
"Skinny Citizens for Humanity"
jeans,
Joes Jeans
,
Seven for All Mankind
(which I have also nicknamed
"Size Sevens for All Mankind"
because anyone bigger than Size Seven might have trouble wiggling into them  ), Chip and Pepper, True Religion,
) and etc... Most of those jeans retail in the $175 to $300 range and none of them fit me.

Isn't that crazy?

What makes us humans want things so badly, just because we can't have them?:Banane04:

So if I have any hope of ever squeezing into any of these brands - I'd have to get down to a Junior size 9 - and I wasn't even that small during the (beloved) Phen Fen years.
)

If I aimed to be what I call Unrealistically Fashionable or even Fashionably Unrealistic  - I'd go for a junior size 9.

I'm tall and could pull it off - I think I'd honestly look like a video girl, seriously.

But

More realistically, it'd be a miracle if the Band helps me get down to a Misses 10 or 12.

That's my story!

HAPPY BAND JOURNEYS TO ALL....

Whoa, good topic... I always talk about what size I want to be, which is a 12.. But I will settle for anything less than what I am now, and that a 22. I am 5'8, 260. I guess a single digit may be okay, but I have never been that size and cant imagine what I would look like.

For me, the perception of size/weight is relative. On fen/phen I got down to 160# (I'm 5'11"), but I could see that I still had a bit of belly, and thought that if I could get to 145# I'd be just right. I remember that people who were just a little overweight (far thinner than I had been a few months earlier) looked "pudgy" when I was at 160#. I suppose the same is true for beauty, money, etc.

I originally set my goal at size 14, but my 16's now are getting baggy and I still don't like the way I look (currently: 14/16 on top; 16 on bottom)

started out at 22W

My pre-op starting weight was 269. The absolute largest I've ever been. I am only 5'1" so this was HUGE for me. I was a size 28 pushing 30 when I started. Now I fit comfortably into a size 24. My first goal is to get down to a size 12. My next and hopefully final size will be a 7/8. I used to be a size 7 and weighed 113 my senior year in high school, but that was over 20 years ago!! Boy, you have to love the years and what they do to our waistlines and not to mention our butts.... LOL

I have a closet FULL of 5/6. Even when I was getting to be size 8, I bought things in a 6 to wear as soon as I lost those 5 pounds (HA). So many of my clothes even have tags! I know that sounds crazy and I probably am a little, deffinately was in denial when I finally hit 192 at 5'7" it was time to make a change. So, I would be SO happy to get into my skinny jeans of 5 years ago. (Who am I kidding, when I get to a 6 I am getting all new jeans...lol)

I am currently wearing a size 24-26 depending on brands. I would love to be a 10! I think an 8 would be pushing it since I am 5'7".

I started out at a 22, and now wear an 18. It sucks being short sometimes *sigh* I have no idea what my goal size is. anything under a 10 would be dreamy a 4-6 would be like a dream come true. I'll just have to wait and see where my band takes me.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
