Detoxing Off Sugar

Recommended Posts

I agree that you should cut all refined sugar. I still had an occasional fruit, not I by dried fruit with no added sugar, because I just don't eat enough of it to cut ip the whole fruit! No white bread, Pasta, etc. It too me four months to even go to a multigrain bread. I just didn't want it to take up precious space in my stomach.

I also cut out soda and iced tea. You will notice after a couple months you won't even like the taste of soda once you don't drink it anymore. Now I drink hot Decaf tea (occasionally) or SF hot chocolate. That is really the only caffeine I get now days. Don't miss it at all.

Like the others said, once you detox from the sugars, your skins amazing and you do have more energy!

I totally agree. I don't eat high sugar fruits like figs or medjool dates. I quit drinking diet soda over a year ago and got hooked on flavored selter. I miss my Canada Dry Mandarin Orange SELTZER! Now all I drink is Water and coffee. I just started drinking crystal light, I love their new flavor appletini. I'm five years sober and this is the closest I'm ever gonna get to an apple martini. My concentration and clarity improves when I'm sugar free.

I guess I have a bit of a different take on this. I believe in moderation in all things, and I try to never say never, if I don't have to. First things first - I didn't make any changes to my diet until pre-op. That two week period was enough to set me straight for awhile, and it wasn't that hard because I was excited about the surgery, and the changes that were about to take place. I too was a Diet Coke addict, and was told I could never have carbonation again, but I'm also a coffee drinker and was given the OK for that as long as it stayed around 2 cups a day. I think the headaches people get during a no sugar/carb period are more about caffeine, and less about sugar - there is so much caffeine in most candy, cake, etc. I was lucky though - I really didn't get any sugar cravings during the pre-op diet even though for the last part of it I couldn't have caffeine. After surgery your stomach is bloated, and for the most part, you're not even hungry for the small amount of liquids you are supposed to have. What I'm trying to say is that I didn't intentionally put myself on a no sugar/carb diet, but by following the pre-op and post-op food instructions, it just happened. It's been about 4 months now and I've been off Diet Coke for that entire time and never crave it. I will say that with all the healthy eating in my diet and my smaller appetite, I rarely have cravings for anything sugary either. However, if I do I will have a small amount, but just not very often.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
