My surgery is scheduled for Nov 7 and I'm on day three of my diet to shrink my liver. I can have one Protein Shake a day, as many sugar free Popsicles, sugar free Jello, and broth that I want. I can also have two cups of fruit and one 8 oz skim milk or fat free yogurt. They also gave me a chocolate shake that I can have once daily and I'm starving to death. But my doctor would not tell me how much weight I should loose. They told me that they couldn't tell me because it was different for everyone. So I weigh 355 pounds. Does anyone know how much weight I should lose?

everyone is different,my dr said he would be happy with a 5-10 lb loss...its not really about how much you lose though, its more about defatting or shrinking your liver, which makes the surgery easier and safer for you.

I have been on the pre-op diet for 9 days now, and have lost 10 lbs. I am on about 1000 cal a day consisting of 3 shakes and low glycemic veges. I'm starving all the time, but I like the see the scale dropping!

Everyone is different , depends how fat your liver is and even the Dr doesn't know until he goes in and sees it. So suck it up eat what they say , your liver will shrink as that fat leaves your body.

While this may seem hard nothing would be harder then to wake up and here them say we couldn't do the band your liver was to fat. Every lb. you take off is one more you won't have to lose later and that what this process is all about.

Thanks everyone. I'm just sorta nervous about how much I should lose. I would hate to go back to the doc an have him say ok miss tina, we expected you to lose 20 pounds and you only lost 15!

i think that unless your dr gave you a specific # to lose, i wouldnt worry about what number..its all Water weight anyhow (but it does count and it does make you feel wonderful). like you, i was in the 300's and i was on the all liquid for 20 days prior to surgery and 2 weeks after.

just focus on that liver shrinking and looking gorgeous when the dr goes in there to move it around so the band can be fitted. you get your mind set straight and follow your dr's orders and you are sure to be a winner. (your dr and maya was correct, we all are different heights, weights, physical whatevers). some larger may lose more than some who are not as large as others..that is why what you lose doesnt matter (unless your dr said to lose a said amount. if that is the case, really follow the game plan).

ps--also, stay off the scale before and after surgery as that wont matter until you are healing after the surgery. the more you watch the scale going up or down, you will def

throw yourself into a not needed tizzy.lll

all the best and it will be here before you know it.

Hang in there you'll get through this!! I had to do a 6 month insurance required diet but at the end my Doc only required a liquid diet for a week to ensure the liver shrunk. I was 450lbs on Surgery day.

I wouldn't focus too much on the scale. Just make sure there is a downward trend. Stick to the plan and it will work itself out. Remember though this liquid phase is for your safety. It is not meant to punish you.

Good Luck and let us know how you're doing.

Jim & CG are right. Don't worry about weight loss. Focus on following your doctors orders. The pre & post diets are hell, drink lots of Water, stay busy and when you think you can't do it get on line here. We'll help you through it.

Good luck. Keep us updated.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
